Eleanor Freese Obituary

GREENVILLE -- Eleanor Louise Freese went home to her Heavenly Father at 10:57 PM, on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the age of 93.

She was born to the late Hoy R. and Ida F. Shahan on August 11, 1932 in Greenville, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Martin W. Freese, whom she married on April 18, 1964 and who passed away on July 13, 2012. She is only survived by several cousins and dear friends.

Eleanor was a graduate of Greenville High School, class of 1950. During her senior year, she also worked for a local Podiatrist.

She was employed by local Greenville Podiatrist, Dr. Forrest H. Cox, Dr. David Cx, and Dr. David Trimble for 34 years.

As a teen, Eleanor accepted the call of the Lord, and became a member of The Castine Church of the Brethren. For years she served the church as a Sunday School teacher and as Church Treasurer and Recording Church Treasurer.

Eleanor was a member of the Iota Iota Chapter of the Phi Beta Psi National Sorority and served officially all chapter offices during her membership.

Cancer Research was the National Project of the Phi Beta Psi. She served as a caption in the annual drives for years in both Greenville and Arcanum, attending many Ohio State cancer meetings.

She was a member of the former Arcanum Chapter #429 Order of Eastern Star. Martin and Eleanor were supporting members of the Wayne Trail Historical Society.

Martin and Eleanor enjoyed traveling. They traveled many miles in their motor home, Gold Wing motorcycle, cars, and by air. They were happy and fortunate to have traveled in all states with the exception of Alaska. Health issues prevented that planned vacation.

Martin and Eleanor were always grateful and gave thanks for their special friends, Carol Price, Michael and Terri Hayes, and David and Linda Hollinger for their friendship, love, and helpfulness.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM, on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Abbottsville Cemetery with Elder Gale Shoup officiating.

It is the wishes that any memorial contributions be given to either the Darke County Cancer Association, PO Box 781, Greenville, Ohio 45331, or the American Cancer Society.
