ARCANUM -- John Thomas Baker, age 75, of Arcanum, Ohio passed away peacefully Sunday January 19, 2025, at his residence in the JAG Union City (Ohio) Care Center under the Guidance of EverHeart Hospice. He was surrounded by staff and friends who loved him like family.
Born June 8, 1949, in Dayton, John grew up in Arcanum with parents Lowell Berman Baker and Mildred Louise Hunkler, both deceased.
Surviving are brother, William Lowell Baker of Oakwood, Ohio and sister Linda Louise Baker of Greenville, Ohio.
A member of The National Honor Society and an Arcanum graduate (1967), John was an outstanding student - especially in World History. He attended Miami University, was well read in ancient history and was also a loyal Cincinnati Reds fan. As a young baseball player, he travelled with The Arcanum Pony League Caravan to the annual big league Reds game at old Crosley Field. Before it closed in 2017, The Darke County Home was John's residence. He had many friends there. Until his own death, our Arcanum baseball coach and P.E. teacher, Eugene Cullers, would take John and teammate, Mike Reynolds, out for coffee at a Greenville Restaurant. This continued for years. John appreciated everyone who cared for him. We love and miss him greatly!

Remember so well the times we came and ate ice cream and played games. We enjoyed every visit and have often talked of and missed those days.
