Annie Chrys

1920 - 2022

March 12, 1920 - April 1, 2022 Annie Chrys was the fourth child of seven born to Daphne and Prodromos Yordon in Fresno, California. In 1938, she graduated from Fresno Tech High School and married Sam Chrys in October, 1943. The couple moved to Los Angeles and later relocated to Rancho Palos Verdes in 1962 where she lived for the remainder of her life. In 1948, the family business, C & K Importing Company/Papa Cristos was established. For over 20 years and until the age of 95 Annie was involved in the family business, where her culinary legacy will live on through her inspiration and contribution to the restaurant's recipes. Annie passed away peacefully on April 1, 2022, in Huntington Beach CA. She was the beloved wife of Sam Chrys whom she was married to until his death in 1988. Annie is survived by her children Chrys (Maria) and Kitsa Treantafelles (Nicholas predeceased) and above all her beloved granddaughters: Daphne (Patrick), Dena, Andrea, Annie (David), and 6 great-grandchildren. The joy they brought to their Grandmother over the years was only surpassed by her love for them. Her memory will live on through the stories passed on to her great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Andione Karastathas and Katina Smith, many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and cousins. Predeceased by sisters Alice Metros, Dorothy Soles, brothers Arthur and George Yordon. Annie was proud of her Greek heritage and was dedicated to giving back to the community. During World War II, she was passionate about being involved with the Greek War Relief Association. She was also an active member of the Buchanan Street Elementary School PTA, St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, St. Sophia Philoptochos Society, and South Bay Embroiders Guild. Anyone who knew her knew she enjoyed traveling and had an appreciation for the finer things in life, and would rarely turn down an opportunity to attend a charity or fundraising event to give back to the community. Annie will be remembered for her many talents as a couture seamstress, milliner, knitter, needle pointer, and master of Greek cuisine. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 10, 2022, 4 pm 8 pm at Green Hills Mortuary, 27501 South Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes. Funeral Service to be held at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, 722 Knob Hill Ave., Redondo Beach, CA, on Monday, April 11, 2022, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made to St. Katherine Philoptochos Society.
