Catherine Marie Redman Welsh

1921 - 2010

With a heavy heart, we sadly announce the peaceful passing of Catherine "Marie" Welsh, at the age of 89. Born June 8, 1921 in Morton, Washington, Marie soon moved to San Pedro, graduating from San Pedro High School in 1937. Marie is survived by her loving husband, Captain Lawrence Welsh; daughter, Patricia Headlee and her husband, Rodney; son, Lonnie Walsh; daughter, Joan Weaver; nephews, Frank and John Petrasich; their families and godson, Bobby Petrich. Marie spent nearly all of her life in her beloved San Pedro. She loved the companionship and camaraderie of friends and loved ones. Marie relished in festive situations and had an affinity for deriving the positive perspective in any situation. She loved and cherished her deep friendship with the Merchant Marines and the Elks Lodge. Marie was an accomplished chef, loved to dance and entertain and her generosity was a given. When facing adversity, Marie presented herself with courage and elegance, whether it was braving the high seas with her husband "The Captain" or the lament she felt about her missing beloved daughter, Donniss Marie "Pinky" Redman. May they come together, now in peace! Mass will be held at the Holy Trinity Church at 209 N. Hanford Ave., Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. on June 16, 2010. Graveside services to follow immediately at Green Hills Memorial Park. All are invited to join us at the Elks Lodge at 12:30 p.m. in San Pedro to celebrate Marie's life.
