12/16/1932 - 09/18/2021 John W. Basso passed away peacefully, at the age of 88, on September 18, 2021 at Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance, CA. John's wife Alice of 67 years passed away only three and a half months earlier. They are reunited once again playing their favorite game of backgammon. John was born in Toledo, Ohio to John J. and Ruth Basso on December 16, 1932. John grew up in Los Angeles and attended Washington High School, graduating in 1951. After high school, John joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Thomas Jefferson from 1951 to 1953. After the Navy, John met Alice and they happily married in 1954. Their only child John Allen was born in 1956. Through the early years, John worked hard in several jobs, sometimes two at a time. In 1973, John and a partner he worked with, Henry Mataalii, purchased a company in Harbor City, CA and they called it McStarlite Company. The company makes many different types of complex sheet metal parts. The business John and Henry started is now the world's largest producer of inlets for aircraft manufactures all over the world. Just until June of this year, John hardly missed a day of work. John was a successful business entrepreneur in the South Bay for over 48 years. John had many hobbies throughout the years, such as fishing, camping, bowling and golf. John and Alice loved to travel, and over the past 35 to 40 years they traveled all over the U.S. and the world. Cruising was their favorite method of travel, having taken over 60 cruises. John is survived by his son John A. Basso, his daughter-in-law Joanna Basso, his grandson Daniel Basso, his granddaughters Michelle and Jennifer, his great-granddaughter Lana Basso, and five great-grandchildren. John touched many people in his 88 years and made many lifelong friends. His love, kindness, generosity and loyalty were priceless. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him and his memory will live on. A Funeral Service will be held on October 1st, 9am at the Green Hills Memorial Chapel.
