Joseph Cracchiolo Obituary

Nov. 5, 1932 - August 7, 2019 Joseph "Joe" Cracchiolo passed away peacefully on August 7, 2019, at the age of 86. At the time of his passing, he was lovingly surrounding by his wife of 62 years, Janie, his three children, and other family members. Joe was a true San Pedran. He was born and raised in San Pedro, graduated from San Pedro High School, and lived in San Pedro his entire life. After high school he served two years in the Navy during the Korean conflict on the USS Oriskany and the Bon Homme Richard. When he returned home, he married the girl of his dreams, started his family, and became a general contractor. He built many custom homes and apartment buildings in and around San Pedro. After retiring from building, he fished on his boat, the Linda C, enjoyed time with his grandsons, and spent many of his mornings having coffee with his buddies at Bagels Galore. Joe is survived by his wife, Janie Cracchiolo, who was always his sweetheart, his sister Nina Martorella, his aunt Rose Nunes, his children David Cracchiolo, Susan Newton, and Linda Schwartz, his son-in-law Doug Schwartz, and his grandchildren, Alex and Jason Schwartz. The family is collecting memories of Joe to add to a book. If you have a memory you'd like to share, please send to email account [email protected]. The funeral service will be held at 10am on August 15, at McNerney's Mortuary (570 W 5th St) to be followed by the gravesite interment at Green Hills Memorial Park on Western Ave. Please sign the guestbook at mcnerneysmortuary.com.

Joe was the best. He was a true gentleman and a great and honest contractor. I will miss him. Sorry I just read of his passing. George and I would have been honored to attend his services.

Joe was my first cousin and my Godfather. It goes without saying that I have many fond memories of gatherings of our families on many occasions. One of the most important memories of my dear cousin Joe is when I got out of high school (SPHS S'69), I chose to follow in the footsteps of my dad (Pasqually Mattera) and my cousin Joe. I would often work under Joe on various construction sites under Joe while doing my apprenticeship. I will always be indebted to him for what he taught me during those times. He was a wonderful man, very skilled in his trade, very patient while he was teaching me tricks of the trade. We had many, many good times working with all his fellow carpenters on many job sites. I actually met my wife Cynthia on one of those job sites when she used to walk by when she was going to high school.

I would like to express my deepest condolences to my cousin Janie and Joe's three children. I will always love Joe and will never forget him.

Dear Janie
So sorry for the loss of Joe, we were buddies from way back in the 1950s, and a Roman. He surely will be missed. May God be with you and family during this difficult time.
With our Love and Prayers, Joe and Georgie Nicosia
