Lucille McArthur Obituary
1949 - 2006
Born on Father's Day, June 19th, 1949 and attended her home-town Catholic school Mary Star of the Sea from elementary through to her high school graduation in 1967. After many years experience tagging along with her mother, Josephine, an Interior Designer, hanging pictures, picking fabrics, etc. she decided to follow her calling and attended Woodbury College where she majored in Interior Design. She graduated third in her class and after working as an office planner and designer in Long Beach, CA and in Washington, DC for the Dept. of the Interior, she wed Gary McArthur in 1972. Their marriage produced two children. They eventually returned to California where she started her own Interior Design business. In 1983 she joined her parents and siblings in designing and opening Nizetich's Restaurant on the waterfront in San Pedro. In her position as Banquet Manager "Extraordinaire," she planned and executed countless parties and events where the majority of her clients left all the details to her and relished in her "magic touch" and attention to detail. With the family's retirement from the restaurant in 1992, she once again returned to interior design. She also did design and sales work for Buccola Furniture and Designer's Distribution in the LA Mart. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000 and continued working throughout her six-year struggle with the disease, even starting a Gift Basket business. Her optimistic attitude, ever-present cheerfulness, and wonderful personality helped many of her fellow cancer patient friends face their battles. Lucille leaves behind her two children, Nicole (26) and Michael (25); their father, Gary McArthur; her parents, Anthony & Josephine Nizetich; two sisters, Josetta Spychaj (husband Joe), Antoinette Soto (husband Louie); and one brother, Tom Nizetich (wife Jana); plus nieces, Stephanie & Vanessa Spychaj; nephews, Louie Soto and Anthony & Alexandar Nizetich; three aunts; and several cousins; her long-time partner, Ed Mueller; and her English Bulldog, "Hercules". Services will be held at Mary Star of the sea Church on Monday March 13, 2006 at 10:30 AM with interment at Green Hills Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by McNerney's Mortuary. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to Dr. John Link, MD and his entire staff: Sister Mary Babcock of the Little Company of Mary, Mary Potter Program, The Long Beach Memorial Hospice and all of her friends and other organizations for their prayers throughout Lucille's illness. The family is overwhelmed by the showing of support as a result of the effect that she has had on so many lives. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The San Pedro Peninsula Cancer Guild (USC Norris), c/o #7 Wagon Lane, Rolling Hills, CA 90274. Lucille was a beautiful person, both inside and out, who will be deeply missed by all of those who knew and loved her. A Funeral Mass will be offered Monday, March 13, 2006, 10:30 AM at Mary Star of the Sea Church followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park. I worked for Lucille on many occasions/banquets etc...she was remarkable, the best at what she did , which was to coordinate hot , quality meals served to one or two hundred guests without any problems. She was graceful, very professional,and a joy to work under ...( I was a bus boy) I was so sad to read about her demise , memories came flooding in like it was yesterday , made me realize how much I did Love the Nizetich family , I miss them all very much...RIP Lucille !!! I can't help but remember such a beautiful person who was involved personally in my courtship with Andy. The wonderful & funny cards she helped him pick out to send to me at Humboldt State College while I was there. I have a whole scrapbook of that correspondence & a Love letter written totally in song titles.
Who could forget Miss Lucille's Swim School. Our children and many of our friends children were blessed & fortunate to have her as their instructor.
The Angels are smiling to have such a lovely & kind person to be with them, her smile was infectious.
She shall truly be missed.

Although I never had the pleassure to meet Lucille, I always carried her in my hart true her son Mike, and feel like i know the family for years allready. I just learned of Lucille's death from my brother in San Pedro. He asked if I remembered her from high school, and I thought, “How could I forget her - cheerleader, homecoming queen - the prettiest girl in the class?” I remember her vivacity and warmth, as well as her physical beauty. Dear Nicole~ I am so sorry that you have lost your Mother. I remember Lucille when we went to the horse races with Tony Scott back on July 11th 2003. She was having such a good time and was so full of life. I have a picture of all of us at the winners circle, and your Mom is in the middle of the picture with a big smile on her face. Lucille was such an inspiration to me. I to had breast cancer and she was there to console me and help me make the right decisions. There is never a visit with Dr. Link that I don't ask about her. I will truly miss her. She and her family are just wonderful people.

Even if I have lived across the globe in Rome, Italy for 36 years, I have never lost contact with my childhood friend Lucille. She was in my wedding and I still cherish the lovely music box she gave me as a gift. I will never forget her. I was fortunate enough to see her last year and I admired her courage and strength.
