Monte C. McMurray

Monte C. McMurray, age 75, passed away of a heart attack at his home in Lake Forest, CA, Monday, November 14, 2011. Monte was born in Lewiston, Idaho, November 21, 1935. After high school in 1954, he joined the Army, then he attended the University of Idaho. During this time he married Mercedes Crabb in 1958. They moved to Torrance, CA in 1960 with their two sons. Mercedes taught 6th grade in Torrance for 30 years. Monte taught school in Inglewood, became a vice principal, then principal. After receiving his doctorate in education at USC, he became an assistant superintendent of instruction, then finance, and later superintendent of the Oceanview School District in Huntington Beach. Monte was a mentor for many a teacher and administrator, where he was loved and respected. He married his second wife, Pam in 1991. After he retired they lived a happy life in Lake forest in their beautiful home. In August the McMurrays held a family reunion. Monte loved football, track and golf. He ran many 10 K's and marathons in the South Bay. Monte is preceded in death by his son, Scott in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Pam; his sister, Joy and brothers, Ron, Stan and Mike. His brother, Lynn died two days after Monte. Monte is also survived by his son, Kent (Lisa); and granddaughters, Morgan McMurray and Shayla McMurray; her mother, Sandy Wheeler and sister, Sage, all of Torrance, and Lindsay Walk of Riverside. Monte's life will be celebrated in Lake Forest January 29, 2012. He will be buried next to his son, Scott, in Tekoa, Washington.
