Pamela Barnes Obituary
01/07/1931 - 12/23/2020 Pamela Joyce Barnes, age 89, passed away on December 23, 2020 at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, California. Pamela was grateful to live in her beloved home in Hermosa Beach until the day before. Pamela was born in Los Angeles, CA on January 7, 1931 to Verna and John Anderson. She spent the first years of her childhood in Montrose, CA until her father passed away when she was ten. Then in 1941 her mother Verna moved Pamela and her brother, Lawrence, to Hermosa Beach where she resided for the rest of her days. In her teen years Pam attended Pier Avenue Junior High, Redondo Union High School and El Camino College. A few years later, Pamela was hired at the Garrett AiResearch Corporation where she worked in the Photo Lab. Soon she was promoted to an executive secretary position in the Public Relations Department. Through the years Pamela was a steadfast member of St. Cross Episcopal Church in Hermosa Beach. The church was such a special place for Pam! For years she volunteered in the church office designing the Sunday programs, counting the Sunday offerings and helping wherever it was needed. She was a member of the St. Cross History Committee where she was cherished for her knowledge of the history of the church. The current rector said to the congregation one Sunday during announcements, "If anyone has any questions, just ask Pam". Pamela's faith was strong. She knew the Episcopal calendar inside and out and what color to wear to church on any special day. Pamela was also a member of the Hermosa Beach Historical Society and Museum where she was regarded as one of their most valuable and highly regarded local citizens. She was relied upon to share her knowledge of Hermosa Beach history after having lived there for almost 80 years. Pamela's passions ranged from cooking for others to calligraphy, stained glass and creating many crafts. She loved art galleries, theater (especially musicals) and Disneyland! She learned to use an iPad in her early 80's. She, absolutely, loved being socially connected. Her greatest passion was her family and friends. Anyone who knew her knows what an amazing mind and memory she had! As many can attest, she never forgot a birthday or anniversary. We can visualize Pam now meeting up with all her loved ones who have gone before. She was special, fun-loving and original! Pamela Joyce Barnes will forever be missed. Pamela is survived by her brother, Lawrence Anderson; daughters, Karen Barnes and Wendy Kingman and son, Bradley Barnes, as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. At Pamela's request, donations may be made to the St. Cross Episcopal Church History Committee.
