Sarah Flores, the daughter of Felix Duran and Felicia Salas, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2012 at the age of 90. She was born on September 8, 1922 in California and had been a life long resident of Wilmington. Sarah was a member of the First Assembly Church in Wilmington where she served throughout her life, as well as in the community. She was first employed at McConnell Auto Parts in San Pedro and later became a PTA President at Wilmington Park Elementary where she taught Release Time for 26 years. She also was a Sunday School Teacher for 30 years and volunteered at HUCLA Medical Center for over 40 years. She was given the Award of Merit for outstanding service at HUCLA completing 1073 volunteer hours and was named Volunteer of the Year for the County of Los Angeles by the Board of Supervisors in 2002. Sarah is preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Flores, and is survived by her son, John Flores, and grandson, Cory Flores. A Memorial Service will be held at Wilmington First Assembly Church at the corner of Avalon Blvd. and Lomita Blvd. in Wilmington on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at 10:30am.
