Torao Yoshida Obituary
Born June 29, 1930 in Quealy, Wyoming, near Rock Springs, he was the youngest of six children. Tory passed away on Sept 23, 2013 at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, CA at age 83 unexpectedly. Tory was a 42-year resident of Palos Verdes Estates and was active in the community as a youth sports coach and church member/treasurer. He served in the U.S. Army and is a veteran of the Korean War. Educated at the Univ. of Wyoming and attaining a graduated degree at the Univ. of Arizona, he went on to work as an electrical engineer for Hughes Aircraft-Space and Communications Division until retiring in 1989. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working outdoors, cooking, and golfing. A generous man with a kind and light hearted spirit. Tory is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ferne Yoshida; his son Thomas Yoshida and wife Cheryl; daughter Jeanne Maynard and husband Jonathan; sisters Dolly Martin and Elsie Akisada. He is predeceased by his daughter Lynn Yoshida; brothers John Yoshida and Teruo Yoshida; and sister Ayako Ota. Services will be held at the Riviera United Methodist Church in Redondo Beach, CA on Saturday Sept 28th at 12:00 PM. A light luncheon will follow service. The best neighbor ever. One time we got a call from him while on vacation. He had gone to the kennel to pick up our dog. Told us to NEVER EVER take our dog there. That's what good neighbors are for. Such a generous man. And a bundle of energy all the way to his last day.

What I remember most about Tory is his friendly spirit and kind heart -- especially to sometimes wayward teenagers (as I certainly was). Tory and Ferne had open doors and hearts for me and others. He was kind to animals too. RIP Tory!

I could always count on a warm, smiling welcome and a helping hand from Tory. He and Ferne are and always will be true friends. I will miss his great chuckle. Miss you Tory.
