Waldo Ford Obituary

Ford, Waldo E. "Wally" (93)
Born March 21, 1912 in Los Angeles, CA. Waldo (Wally) passed away on March 9, 2006. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marian; daughter, Sandra (Douglas) Cunningham; grandchildren, Keith (Linda) Cunningham and Karen McNeice-Morrison, and 5 great-grandchildren.Waldo was a lifetime resident of Southern California, attending USC for a Bachelor of Arts degree in geology, and furthering his education at UCLA, earning a Master of Arts Degree in Geology. He spent his early years after graduating from college in the petroleum industry, working as a field geologist. He then changed his career to teaching in high school. He continued his teaching career as a founding faculty member of El Camino College in 1947, where he taught Earth Sciences for 30 years, until his retirement. He continued his avid interest and love for geology by lecturing and guiding field trips for his many friends and members of various local rock and mineral clubs in Southern California. He was a current member and active participant of South Bay Lapidary Mineral Society. He served on the Water Commission for the City of Torrance from 1958-1977. In addition, he was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists since 1938, and was also a longtime member of the Walteria United Methodist Church in Torrance. He will be dearly missed by all. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 15, 5pm-8pm at the mortuary. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 16, 2006, 1pm in the mortuary chapel.
