Bruce Randall Obituary

Bruce was born on September 28th, 1928, in Lansing, Michigan, to Carlton Randall and Avis Neuman Randall. His sister, Darlene Underhill, proceeded him in death. He married Valera Kehn in Enid Oklahoma on March 11, 1950, and together they raised six children: Pat, Mike, Mark, Ann, Richard, and Scott. Bruce was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. As a boy leaving a troubled home, and on the advice of a friend, Bruce travelled to Boys Town Nebraska. The many skills he learned under the guidance of Father Flanagan and teachers were of immeasurable value in his careers and what he passed on to his children. He graduated from Boys Town High School in 1947. As our military family crisscrossed the country Boys Town was always a favorite stop. Bruce had a rewarding career of 20 years in the Air Force Logistics Command and another 20 years as an engineer in aerospace, working on significant projects such as the Orbiting Solar Observatory, and other spacecraft, many of which continue their missions to this day. He traveled the world, taking his family with him to England, Spain, and many US states. He enjoyed building boats and woodworking. In retirement he and Valera traveled in an RV and had many adventures as camp hosts in remote parts of the National Parks in Alaska. Bruce was a loving, caring husband, and father. He was a generous giving person wanting to help anyone he could. Bruce and Valera provided a strong foundation of ethics and values for their sons, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to carry forward with the Randall name. Bruce and Valera lived peaceably in Boulder for over 50 years and many of their children reside there presently. He was preceded in death by Valera his wife of 70 years. Bruce is survived by all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Funeral services for Bruce will be held at the Darrell Howe Mortuary at 1701 W South Boulder Road Lafayette Co 80026 on January 20th at 11:00am. Followed by his internment with close family at Green Mountain Cemetery on 20th Street in Boulder Colorado. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to BoysTown.org to change the life of a child like Bruce."

Just yesterday during a job interview I was asked to describe my favorite boss and I there were many since I started working back the 70´s. Bruce instantly came to mind as he was easily the best at getting the most work out all of us at Ball Aerospace without being a micro manager. He was extremely smart and would happily share his knowledge and even instilled in me a desire to always learn more, at least one new thing every day! He was also kind and persuasive... he was the one person who successfully convinced me I should give running a try. And he wouldn´t laugh when I was chanting "I hate this, I hate this." while running in order to keep my pace and breathing coordinated. Bruce was a special individual, one who genuinely likes himself, knew his value at work, and adored his family.
