Cynthia Moore

It is with inexpressible sadness that the family of Cynthia Moore, age 46, announces her death in an automobile accident near Glenwood Springs on April 13, 2021. She lived in Lafayette, Colorado. Cynthia was born in El Paso, Texas, but grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado. She attended schools there but spent her senior year at Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale, from which she graduated in 1992. She received a degree in Biochemistry from CU Boulder in 1998 and a second degree from the same institution in Civil Engineering in 2016. Cynthia was known for her outsized personality. From the beginning she was a bit of a daredevil and rapscallion - sitting on top of the refrigerator as soon as she could walk, opening outside doors to sneak out of the house at 18 months, and driving a herd of sheep across the field at age 3. Early on she developed a love of horses and by herself at age 8, without prior instruction, bridled and saddled an old farm horse out in the field and proceeded to ride. Horses became her passion, such that following graduation from college she went to work at a horse barn, training horses, teaching riding and jumping, and transporting many students to competitive horse shows both in Colorado and out-of-state locations. After three years she opened her own equestrian business, Mooreland Farm, and headquartered at J.K. Ranch in Boulder, where she was known for being fearless. During that time she made many friends among students and parents who greatly regretted her return to college when her body began to complain about the hard use inherent in her field. Cynthia also had a great love for cats. During the last thirteen years she had 3 kitties that she had rescued. As she said, they were her "children," and she lavished them with utmost attention and the best of care. After receiving a second bachelor's, she worked as a construction superintendent in Boulder. In addition to the horse world, Cynthia loved spending time with her friends, playing cards and various games, knitting, traveling, and cooking. She is survived by: her mother, Linda Moore, of Denver; her sister, Kristen Hougland, of Christchurch, New Zealand; and her brother, Carter Moore, of Boston, MA. Cremation has taken place at the Monarch Society. Her life will be celebrated by her immediate and extended family when COVID is under control and members may travel. She will be grievously missed.
