George Lauterbach Obituary

George Q. Lauterbach passed peacefully at Balfour in Louisville, Colorado, on April 4, 2016, surrounded by family. He was born January 9, 1927, in Wichita, Kansas. He was the oldest son of John and Anna Lauterbach. He grew up in Wichita and joined the Navy after graduating from high school. After serving in World War II he married his sweetheart, Velvyn West in 1949. George and Velvyn have 5 children and their spouses, including 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. After receiving education degrees in Kansas and Indiana, he graduated from Colorado State Teachers College in 1961 with his doctorate. He was a long time educator in Kansas and Colorado. He was the first principal at Greeley West High School and served as principal at Campbell Elementary, Wheat Ridge High School and Wilmore Davis Elementary in Jefferson County public schools. His career in education spanned over 40 years. He was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ all of his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and will be forever remembered as a positive, encouraging, loving man who always made time for others. A viewing will be held Thursday, April 7th, from 6 - 8 pm, at Darrell Howe Mortuary in Lafayette. A memorial service will also be held there on Friday, April 8th, at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Mountain States Children's Home, P.O. Box 1097, Longmont, CO. 80502. Condolences may be posted on-line at www.darrellhowemortuary.com

Always remembered Mr Lauterbach as a kind leader in our church, smiling & positive to all ages. Know he will be greatly missed.
