Janet Kilby Obituary

Boulder resident, Janet Kilby, passed away peacefully on September 19. Janet was born on July 8, 1954 to Barbara Louise and Jack St Clair Kilby. She is survived by loving husband, Rick Healy, and daughters Caitlan Moore (husband Jed), Marcy Cameron, and Gwen Cameron, step children Dan and Emily (Dana), grandsons Liam, Rhys, and Brooks, sister Ann, and nieces Erica (Abe) and Katrina. Janet was passionate about her family, social justice, and nature. She loved flowers and was especially concerned about the well being of bees and other pollinators. Janet's career was dedicated to improving the lives of the under served in Mesa County. While raising her daughters in Palisade, Janet worked tirelessly with Child and Migrant Services, the Resource Center, and as executive director of the Marillac Clinic. Her efforts produced lasting results, including improved housing for migrant farm workers, housing for victims of domestic violence, a system that ensures prenatal care for all women in the county regardless of their ability to pay, and expansion of medical services for the uninsured to include mental health and dental care. A celebration of Janet's life will be held in the Quaker tradition at the Chautauqua Community House, 900 Baseline Rd. Boulder, CO at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 12. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center or the Xerxes Society.

Janet was more than a mom, a wife, an aunt and a friend. She was a "Force", a driving "Force" for Good. In the Grand Valley she touched the hearts of many: employees and clients of the Child and Migrant Council, the Resource Center and the Marillac clinic, just to name a few. She will be remembered fondly by all. Janet, your spirit is with us.
Peace.

Treat a man as he is, and he will remain as he is. Treat a man as he could be, and he will become what he should be.
RALPH WALDO EMERSON

Janet personified this thought. I served on the Child and Migrant Board in Palisade for many years with her support and encouragement.

Janet saw in me what I didn't recognize in myself. That is the gift she left me and many others.

I learned today of Janet's passing. She was my boss at The Resource Center in Grand Junction. My best boss ever. She was a wonderful person. Hers was truly a life well lived.

My condolences to her family.
