Mark Daniel Lightman

1963 - 2022

The family and friends of Mark Daniel Lightman are saddened to announce his unexpected passing on May 27, 2022. Mark was born in Boston, MA on August 13, 1963, the son of the late Maxine Lightman (Rice) and C Leonard Lightman of Del Mar, CA. Mark was living in Sacramento, CA at the time of his death. Mark was the loving father of two sons, Booker and Shepherd. Mark lived in many parts of the country as a young man. His dad, an executive for the Zayre Corporation, set up distribution centers throughout the US, before the family settled in San Jose, CA. Mark graduated from Willow Glen High School and San Jose State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Religious Studies; in addition, he earned a master's degree from The University of Santa Barbara and continued to work towards his Doctorate in Religious Studies. Mark was a professor of Religious Studies at St. Mary's College in Maryland. He later moved to Chandler OK and was an insurance adjuster at Walkingstick LLC and a minister at the First Presbyterian Church. He then moved to Lafayette, CO where he worked as a Qualified Medical Administrator. A classic intellectual, Mark was a caring man, thoroughly devoted to his sons & family. Extremely well read and informed, he enjoyed engaging in discussions, reading, and speaking in Koine Greek as well as Hebrew. He loved to follow sports, especially baseball. In addition to his father and sons, Mark is survived by his sisters, Rebecca Lightman and husband Lou Rodriguez of Sacramento, CA, Susan Lightman and husband Paul C Sampson of Preston CT, and Jackie Stevens of Gilroy CA, along with his lifelong friends Jonathan Pearl and Mark (Buck) Lovelace, several cousins, nieces and nephews and ex-wife Lynn Stewart. He was predeceased by his mother, Maxine, his grandparents, Simon & Ann Lightman, Louis & Mary Rice, his brother-in-law Doug Stevens and his cherished uncle, Frank Davis, of Cranston, RI. Services will be private.
