Paul Kuehnel Obituary

Paul Kuehnel, for many years the president of the Boulder Fish and Game Club, died at Boulder Community Hospital on June 21. He came to Boulder as a young man and wanted to be a carpenter. He worked for several local contractors framing townhomes and custom houses in South Boulder. After joining the Carpenters Union, he worked on the Budweiser brewery in Fort Collins and on big construction projects in downtown Denver. Later he was a lead custodian on the CU-Boulder campus and worked in Food Services as a retiree. Paul stood for hard work and fine craftsmanship. He lived to camp and fly fish in the wilderness; to run on the Mesa Trail; to ride, race, wrench on, and admire motorcycles; and to meet his friends. His legacy is in the high-country lakes of the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, which the Boulder Fish and Game Club stocked with trout for many years. Paul will be buried in Thompson, ND, where he was born. Family members in Colorado include his sister-in-law Delaine Kuehnel; his nieces Stephanie Shivers, Stacey Kuehnel, and Liz Bailey; and his partner, Janet Grassia.

What can I say except that I miss him so much already. My Uncle, and godfather who was President of the Fish and Game Club made sure those kids ponds were stocked so that the kids could enjoy their derby. Words are not enough to express how much he will be missed
