Roger Berardi Obituary

We are heartbroken, shocked and filled with sorrow to announce the passing of Roger Berardi. He was a much beloved figure of the Boulder County community. Roger, "Rog", rode into the sunset on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. Roger Neil Berardi was born on January 13, 1946, in Oceanside California. He was married to his loving wife, Julie, for 50 years. He was a devoted father and best friend to his children, Anne & Charlie. Growing up in Boulder, Colorado, Roger graduated from Fairview High School in 1964, was an outstanding athlete exceling in track & field. He attended the University of Colorado before embarking into a lifelong passion in the restaurant industry. Throughout the years of his hard work, he owned several businesses. It all began with The Roman Arches (Boulder), continued with Berardi & Son's (Boulder, Downtown Denver & Fort Collins), Juanita's (Boulder), Juanita's Uptown & Mike Berardi's (Uptown Denver). Cooking and entertaining were not just a job, but a lifelong passion that he loved to share with all his family and friends. Roger's hobbies included collecting and restoring classic cars and motorcycles, traveling, boating, fishing, golfing...every one of these included making friends and putting his individual stamp on each and every person he was with or met. He supported the University of Colorado Buffaloes athletic programs, traveling across the nation to cheer them on or hosting legendary tailgates for football games. When he was not enjoying the Colorado sunshine, he and Julie wintered in their Arizona home. Roger was quick with his opinion and how he thought the world should be. He thrived on being informed and arguing his political beliefs, but overall, he was very generous and had a genuine compassion and desire to help others. Roger is also survived by his brother Dick Berardi and sister Nancy Bingham, as well as many loved cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. He is preceded in death by his parents Evaline and Charles "Jiggs" Berardi. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Colorado Neurological Movement Disorder Division. I spent many nights working at Berardi and sons. The brothers, their father and sister were all class acts. They brought so much to the Boulder way of life that people of today have no clue of.

So Sorry to hear that Rog took the dive. People like him are few and far away and the association of getting to know him well, was as much fun to look at him while listening to his stories, was a real fun one time only experience. So sorry. The fun things in life are the people you meet and get to know. My bests for his family. Roger Nisbet

My dad and Roger's dad both worked on a rock crusher during the depression, and we always headed to Berardi's in Louisville when it opened. Of course I knew Roger through school as we were in football together. After he opened his restaurant on North Broadway I ate there many times, as well as the place in what is now LoDo. Lost track of him after his namesake restaurants closed. Always sad to have a fellow Knight pass.

Julie, sorry to read this. Roger was a good man, Juanita's was a great restaurant and bar, and supported many years of our volleyball teams. He will be missed.

Dear Julie, Anne, and Charlie,
Shock and sorrow are truly the words that best describe my feelings on receiving the news of my dear friend Rogers passing. As you know, Roger and I were friends for 60 years....since junior high school. I grieve with you in your loss. No words are adequate, he was my dearest friend. Having lost my beloved wife a few years ago I fully understand
The depth of your pain. I will miss that wild man greatly. He was truly one of a kind, generous, compassionate, funny, and a little twisted.....i will forever treasure the memories of the time we had together.

I'm very sorry for the Berardi family. Roger was my Fairview classmate, and he was one of the most popular and nicest guys, just fun and decent, and I'm not surprised that he went on to be so successful in business and family life.

The world will be a little less fun with Rog gone. He touched so many people in so many ways and helped those that he could. He was generous, caring and always brought a smile to those around him. Fair winds and following seas my friend.

Roger will be greatly missed. There was only 1 Roger Berardi and there will never be another like him. We were all lucky to have known him, loved him, argued with him or shared a drink with him. I wish him peace and love. So sorry Anne, Julie, and Charlie... ~Steph
