Benjamin Pope Avent, age 90, passed away early morning on Friday, December 5, 2025. Visitation was Monday, December 8, 2025 from noon to 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church in Corinth. Service was Monday, December 8, 2025 at 2 p.m. with Military Honors at First Methodist Church in Corinth, with interment in Henry Cemetery.
Ben was born June 30, 1935 in Van Buren, Tenn. to Hester and Samuel Avent. He was raised in a large family on a farm where he learned to work hard and honor God. He married Beatrice Beal from Centralia, Ill. in 1957. They eventually settled in Corinth, where he worked for ML Sandy Lumber Sales for 42 years Ben eventually struck out on his own after his kids were raised and through college opening Avent Wholesale Building Materials. He retired from the Wholesale Building Materials Company in 2004.
Ben enjoyed quail hunting with his good friends, fishing, and taking his family camping and boating. He was a member of FUMC for over 60 years and enjoyed serving the community in the local Kiwanis, serving as a past President.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents and 7 siblings. His surviving family includes his wife of 68 years, Beatrice Avent; 3 children, Brent Avent (Angela), Rhonda A Cooper (Chuck), and Karen A Gonfiantini (Glen) ; 7 grandsons: Bryson Avent (Linde), Hunter Avent (Baylee),Van Cooper (Carly), Sam Cooper (Jenna), Ray Cooper (Katie), Jack Cooper (Meredith), and Chase Gonfiantini; 1 granddaughter, Hannah A Holley (Jacob) and 11 great grandsons; Warren & Sam Whitten Cooper, Liam, Declan, & Crosby Cooper, Scott & Conrad Cooper, James Robert, Archie, & Charlie Avent, & Collins Brawner.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude’s or First Methodist Church in Corinth. Magnolia Funeral Home has been honored to serve the family of Mr. Benjamin "Ben" Pope Avent.
