Dr. Peggy Rainey Wroten

Dr. Peggy Rainey Wroten passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. She was born on May 23, 1945, to Harmon Rainey and Minnie V. Coleman Rainey.

She was a 1963 graduate of Kossuth High School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Blue Mountain College, Master of Science in Education from Mississippi State University, a Specialist Degree in Education and a Doctorate in Education from Mississippi State University. Her 48-year teaching career began at Gift School in Alcorn County, followed by Elliston Academy in Memphis, Northeast Mississippi Community College, and the University of Tennessee at Selmer.

In addition to her teaching career, she worked as a counselor for Timber Hills Mental Health Region IV and as a counselor for Hills Chapel Elementary School. She was a faithful member of the Booneville Church of Christ where she formerly taught Sunday School. She was an active member and previously served as President of the Natchez Trace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Confederacy.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John Wroten, who was the love of her life, daughter Elizabeth and husband Steve, granddaughter Kate who was her pride and joy, sister Gay Null, niece Nicole Null Thompson and husband Todd, nephew Gabe Null and wife Lauren, their precious girls that she adored, Collins and Merritt Null. She also leaves a special cousin who was like a sister Linda Tyson, special friend Robin Turner and caregivers Jeff Williams, Margo Thompson and Tangie Leonard.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harmon and Minnie V. Rainey, in-laws Arvid and Irene Wroten and brother-in-law Bobby Null.

Services will be Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. at the Booneville Church of Christ with eulogy by Robin Turner, and Bro. Doug Greenway and Bro. Brad Dillingham officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Williams, Gabe Null, Greg Tyson, Gerald Parks, Chuck Parks, Billy Williams and Rick Wanner. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home will be trusted with helping Peggy's family.
