Wendell Trapp Obituary

Wendell Holmes Trapp, III, known affectionately to all as Trey, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025. Over the course of his forty-three years, Trey lived life to the fullest and "fun-est." He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and uncle.

He was the middle child of a boisterous family and spent his formative years playing sports and enjoying his time outdoors with his siblings and friends in the neighborhood. Trey was a stellar athlete, and as he entered high school, his passion for both soccer and golf grew as did his skill level. He played both sports for Corinth High School and played soccer at the junior college level for a semester.

After graduating from Corinth High School in 2000 and subsequently graduating from Mississippi State University with a bachelor's degree in business administration, he was named one of the "Top 40 Under 40" by the Mississippi Business Journal. Through his personal life, his work endeavors, and his travels, Trey made friends with others on a daily basis. He and Amy interacted with people from around the United States and the world in their travels to New Zealand, the island of Nevis, Switzerland, Italy, and Spain.

Soccer and golf were not only fun and games to Trey, but they were the conduit that led him to the loves of his life. An avid golfer, he got paired with his future wife of twelve years, Amy, at a couples' golf tournament, and they enjoyed playing, partnering, and occasionally winning such tournaments throughout their marriage. Trey held the position of President of the Natchez Trace Golf Club, where he and Amy had many friends. Trey was, at different points, a scratch golfer, but he relied on his wife's short game for success. He was such fun on the course and in the clubhouse.

His passion for soccer was apparent to his teammates, his coaches, and his opponents. He was fast and furious on the field. His love of soccer was passed down to his darling daughter, Lily Parker. Trey relished coaching her and her team and always provided fun along with the game's fundamentals. Not only did Trey coach his daughter's soccer team, but he also lent a helping hand with all pursuits enjoyed by Lily Parker. He helped coach one of her softball teams and kept meticulous stats at those games as well as at her basketball games. Trey was also a "pageant dad" and allowed Lily Parker to perfect hair, make-up, and nail trends on him. At home, he loved to put together puzzles and leave countless creative notes and drawings for Lily Parker, Amy, and their various pets. No one loved a stray dog more than Trey. Trey's pride and devotion to his family was apparent to all who knew him but especially to those on the receiving end of that adoration.

A prankster and jokester at heart, Trey was as quick-witted and jovial as a man can be. Whether a dad joke, a silly face, or an elaborate prank, Trey elicited smiles upon smiles and laughs upon laughs from those around him. He mercilessly entertained his family, both adults and children, and he relished the banter and affection he had not only for Lily Parker and Amy, but his entire extended family, especially his nieces and nephews. As life got busy, he even sent his particular brand of clean and corny humor through the mail. Those letters and cards will be forever treasured.

Throughout his life, from childhood to adulthood, Trey was known and loved by all for his generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand. From his early days earning the rank of Eagle Scout until his last day, he was ready and willing to go above and beyond. From helping his parents and siblings with the joyous chaos at Pickwick to reaching out to the Richey side of his family to offer physical and emotional support, Trey proved daily to be the trustworthy rock for those around him. He could be counted on to travel long distances to watch from the stands as those he loved competed as well as to send regular text messages of encouragement to those needing to be uplifted. His generosity of spirit shone through not only in his actions but also as a member of The Orchard and in his copious handwritten annotations in his Bible.

Trey leaves behind his wife Amy Richey Trapp and daughter, Lily Parker; his parents Barbara and Wendell Trapp of Corinth; his sister Lauren Trapp Barnett (Wes) of Memphis, and his brother Alan Trapp (Laura Beth) of Corinth; four nieces, Gracely and Wesley Kate Barnett, Ann Carrington and Collins Trapp, and nephew Wilson Trapp; aunts and uncle Jan Woodard, Melinda Trapp, Kay Trapp, and Lori and Bill Dickerson; cousins Melissa McDuffie (Jason), Dr. Joan Dickerson (Lauren), and Bill Dickerson, III (Lora Claire), Leah Trapp Edmundson (William), and Charlotte Trapp Hawthorne; Jill and Larry Richey, his in-laws of Mooreville; and brother-in-law Tre' Richey (Stephanie) of Saltillo as well as nephews Sawyer and Grayson Richey.

Trey was preceded in death by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Trapp, Sr. and Dr. and Mrs. W. M. "Dub" Dickerson; and his uncle Dr. James Trapp.

Pallbearers are Zack Jones, Josh Logan, Wesley Roberts, Steve Shelton, Ed Tedford, and Charlie Tucker.

Honorary pallbearers include Joe Banko, Wes Barnett, Devin Bryant, Hunter Bryant, Sean Koehn, Will Lamons, Jake Logan, Sawyer Richey, Tre' Richey, and Alan Trapp, as well as all members of the various Men's Golf Associations to which Trey belonged over the years.

Visitation will be from noon until service time on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Pegues, Tupelo.
