Audrey Mae (Barkand) Mirt, 89, of Connellsville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, at the Walnut Ridge Memory Care Center, Greensburg.
She was born Feb. 24, 1929, in Meadville, the daughter of the late Mildred (Grimes) Large.
Audrey was a member of the First Baptist Church of Connellsville and was employed as a housekeeper for many years. She also worked on the riverboats during the 1940s, which she loved.
Audrey had many hobbies, including building puzzles, crocheting, and crafts. She loved going to and playing bingo and would go hours before bingo started to play scat with her friends who looked out for her, Rose, JoAnn, Judy, and Randy. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Arizona, St. Petersburg, and Mt. Rushmore. Even though she loved so many different things, she especially loved when her son, Bob, would bring her a banana split. This would make her eyes just light up! Best of all, she loved going to yard sales with her daughter, Sharon, and her friend, Arlene, when she was still able to drive.
She will be remembered most for her generosity to those who were less fortunate and the love she bestowed upon those who would accept it. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and she will be missed tremendously.
Audrey is survived by her children, Raymond Toal and wife Sue, Kimberly Soltis, Bob Mirt and wife Susan, Bryan Richter, Mike Richter and wife Amy, and Judy Richter; sons-in-law, Mike Quinn and Ron Soltis; daughter-inlaw, Jamie Richter; grandchildren, Lori Quinn, Mike Quinn and wife Becky, Marnie Toal and companion Bill, Amy Shopes and husband John, Amber Richter and companion Donald, Crystal Connors and Bobby Connors, and the Kaylor Girls, Stefanie, Jaime, and Jessika; great-grandchildren, Michael Quinn, Jacob Quinn, and Lucas Quinn, Aaron Weston and Jason Weston, Gage Shopes and Scarlett Shopes, and Jaxon Davis; sister, Rosanne Romani; and brother, Regis Thornton.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Edward Mirt (2013); daughters, Sharon Mirt (2015) and Nancy Quinn (2000); her son, William Toal (1997); and precious angels, Michelle, Ashley, and Michael.
Family and friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Friday, noon to 3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, the hour of service, in the Paul G. Fink Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, with the Rev. William Hough officiating.
