John R. Shallenberger, 91, of Scottdale, formerly of Connellsville, died Monday, March 14, 2022, in Excela Health Frick Hospital. He was born Feb. 7, 1931, in Connellsville, a son of the late Chris and Pauline Fullem Shallenberger. John spent most of his life as a mechanic and service manager for various dealerships and companies over the years including Mason Motors, Martinsek Motors in Scottdale, service manager at Palmer Chevrolet, mechanic at Farmers Dairy, Santone Motors Service Manager, Fayette County Bridge Department, Volkswagen of America at New Stanton and he retired from the Scottdale Borough as a mechanic. John loved to hunt and fish early in his life and he loved camping and traveling, the mountains, attending family functions and especially loved just sitting on his front porch. He attended the Pennsville Baptist Church. He is survived by his two children, John R. "Bob" Shallenberger Jr. and his wife Fran of Clear Brook, Va. and Pamela J. Eutsey and her husband John of Scottdale; his grandchildren, Christie Patton and her husband James, Brian Shallenberger and his wife Gaby, Amy Baker and her husband Christopher and John Eutsey and his wife Amanda; his great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher, Faith and Jez Patton; Isabella, Alexa and Emily Shallenberger, Gretchan and Colton Baker and John and Dorothy Eutsey; one brother, Samuel Shallenberger of Connellsville and four sisters,
Blanche Mardis of Connellsville, Alberta Aberegg of Maine, Bette Fisher of South Connellsville and Paula Porterfield and her husband Ed of South Connellsville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy J. "Dot" Shallenberger; brothers, Chuck, Benny, Chris, Bob and Ted Shallenberger and sisters, Fern Murray, Mary Clem and Dorothy Taylor. Family and friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, where services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Bixel officiating. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Pennsville Baptist Church or to the Connellsville Community Ministries in memory of John R, Shallenberger.
