Mary E. McCarthy, 96, of Connellsville, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 25, 2021, in Mt. Macrina Manor, Uniontown. She was born May 16, 1925, in Uniontown, a daughter of the late Joe and Ruth Senett Thompson. Mary was a 1943 graduate of Connellsville High School, where she was a school cheerleader and she remained active in the class reunions. She was a long-time employee of the City of Connellsville and the municipal authority. She was active in her Bridge Club. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. She is survived by three children, John David McCarthy and his wife Jo- Anne of Millville, N.J., Susan McCarthy of Connellsville and Jeff McCarthy of Bethel Park; three grandchildren, Sean McCarthy and his wife Lindsay, Jamie Mingin and her husband Matt and Kristin Pfirman and her husband Brian, and six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Colin and Owen McCarthy, Sawyer and Nolan Mingin and Aria Pfirman; and several nieces and nephews and their families.. Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John J. McCarthy in 1987; grandson, Nicholas McCarthy and a brother, James Thompson. Family and friends are invited at attend a memorial Mass on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022 at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception R.C. Church with Rev. Paul Lisik as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family asks that masks be worn and social distancing be practiced. All arrangements are under the direction of the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 111 E. I had the privilege to get to know through her son Dave, who was a best friend
years ago. I also became friends with Jeff, Susan, and Mr. McCarthy. They were a fine family. Mary was a fine woman and mother.
