Robert C. Detwiler, 80. of Connellsville, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022, at his home. He was born Oct. 25, 1941, in Connellsville, a son of the late Earl and Ruth Close Detwiler. He was a graduate of Connellsville High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Robert was a backhoe operator having been a member of Operating Engineers Local #66. He was a member of the VFW in Mt. Pleasant and the American Legion in Scottdale. He is survived by his daughter, Kim Genova and her husband Bart of Maggie Valley, N.C.; granddaughter, Ashley Genova Rose and her husband Michael and three sisters, Helen Lubovinsky of Connellsville, Janet Mascia and her husband Carl of Greensburg and Dee Lilliock of Massachusetts. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Ellsworth Detwiler; brothers, John and Earl Detwiler, and sisters, Eva Jean Weisgerber, Ruth Coughenour and Margaret "Jiggs" Sheets. A celebration of life for Mr. Detwiler will be held at a later date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, in honor of his daughter Kim, who is a cancer survivor, who has battled cancer and has won.
