Ruby Alverta Whipkey, 91, of South Connellsville, passed away peacefully Monday, June 9, 2014, in the South Connellsville Personal Care Home. She was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Castleman, Somerset County, a daughter of the late John and Martha Miller Shultz. Ruby was a graduate of Connellsville High School with the class of 1941. She was a retired cosmetologist, being the owner and operator of Ruby Whipkey's Beauty Salon in Connellsville. Ruby was a member of the South Connellsville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Senior Tigers, the Silver Sneakers and Albright United Methodist Church in South Connellsville. Ruby will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her loving family: her children, Dale Richard Whipkey and wife, Janet, of Dunbar, and Ohlee Faye Beal and husband, Edwin, of Cumberland, Md.; her grandchildren, Lori and Alvin Pyle, Heather and Justin Loar, Michele and Adam Cross, Craig and Shirley Whipkey, Troy Whipkey, Kevin Whipkey and Kelly and Mike Herring; her stepgrandchildren, Twaine and Trisha Beal and Todd and Dawn Beal; her 20 great-grandchildren; her four great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Juanita Morrison and husband, William, of Connellsville; and her special grandpuppy, Guinness. In addition to her parents, Ruby was predeceased by her husband, Ohlen Lee Whipkey, in 1992; her daughter, Joyce A. Whipkey; her sister, Emma Jean Minerd; and her brothers, Quentin, John Jr. and Dillen Shultz. Family and friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, the hour of a funeral service, in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville (724-628-1430), with the Rev. Nelson Confer officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in the Normalville Cemetery.
