Thomas C. Ermine, 89, of Scottdale, a longtime businessman and community leader passed away, Tuesday, July 26, 2022. He was born Nov. 9, 1932, in Scottdale, a son of the late Jack and Christine (Popochock) Ermine.
Tom was owner/operator of Davis Monuments Inc. of Scottdale, along with his late wife, Judy, and son, Ralph. He was a graduate of Scottdale High School Class of 1950 and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Scottdale. Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. As a community servant, Tom first ran for borough council in 1984 and served as a Second Ward councilman for 27 years and served as council president for a number of years. He was instrumental in obtaining funding to raze the former Scottdale YMCA to make way for the construction of a new building for the Scottdale Public Library where he also served on the board of directors. Additionally, Tom was a board member of the Scottdale Cemetery Association and the Westmoreland-Fayette Municipal Sewage Authority (WFMSA). He was also a member of the Scottdale Kiwanis Club and the Laurel Swingers Square Dancers. He and his wife Judy were named Citizens of the Year by the Picnic in the Park Committee for their many years of community service.
He is survived by his loving children, Susan Hall (Michael), Thomas "Ralph" Ermine (Kim), Diane Werksman (Rick) and Sandra Wesolowski (Timothy); nine grandchildren, Robert Werksman (Nicole), Michael Worksman, Zane Ermine (Kelsey), Alex Ermine (Rachel), Elaine Kontogiannis (George), Rachel Peters (Christian), Sarah Wesolowski, Emma Wesolowski and Sasha Wesolowski; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judith A. (Davis) Ermine and two brothers, Jack and Edward Ermine.
Family and friends are welcome on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 303 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, where services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the Scottdale Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scottdale Public Library, 106 Spring St., Scottdale, PA 15683. Online condolences are welcome at www.gjfuneral.com
