It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Deacon Carl Edward Kull, a life long resident of Woodland, CA. He passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 6th, 2021, one week after his 84th birthday.Deacon Kull, or "Ed," "Edward," or "Eddie," as some people knew him, was born in Woodland, CA on May 29, 1937 to Carl and Gertrude Kull. It was there he grew up to attend Holy Rosary Academy and went on to graduate from Christian Bros. High School in Sacramento. Following graduation, he entered the military and served in Korea for a short time.Over the years, he taught in Catholic schools and other schools as well. Deacon Kull lent a hand to many children and teachers to aspire to and achieve their hopes, goals and dreams. Deacon Ed served at Holy Rosary Church for 35 years before his retirement, performing many a wedding, baptism, and offering his services as chaplain at the Woodland Memorial Hospital. He always provided comfort and care to the sick and empathy to those who lost their loved one.In April of 1985, he married his adoring "Reggie." They resided in the home on Pendegast Street he had built adjacent to the Kull family homestead and he continued to do so after her passing in July of 2016.Ed took much pleasure in tending to his beautiful roses and was a member of the Woodland Library Rose Club. He also enjoyed reading, baking, and square dancing. His love for travel and sightseeing to other countries and across the US in the motor home were memorable. Most often these stories of these adventures and tales were shared with family members, neighbors, and friends.Deacon Kull's memory will be cherished for his remarkable intelligence, kindness and generosity, charm and insight to human nature, his wit and marvelous ability to bring out the best in others. He was also deeply respected, well loved, and will be greatly missed by so many.On behalf of his brother Ed, Kenneth would like to express a sincere thank you to all the many kind people his brother was privileged to serve and convey sincere gratitude to the ordained and lay colleagues who served in ministry with him.Ed will be lovingly remembered by his devoted brother, Kenneth (Cheryl). He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and wife. The vigil will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and visitation will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Kraft Bros. Funeral Home.A funeral Mass to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Woodland, CA. Officiating the Mass will the Most Reverend Bishop Jaime Soto of Sacramento.Interment will follow the service at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Woodland, CA. Please join us and celebrate his life together at a reception that will take place at the Parish Community Center, 575 California Street, Woodland, CA (adjacent to the cemetery).Online condolences, memories, and photos of Ed may be shared and viewed on Ed's obituary at www.legacy.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made online to the new Holy Rosary Church at abundant.co/hrcwoodland/give.

So sad to hear of Ed's passing. I am sure he will be remembered for his quiet ways, earnest desire to serve and thoughtful living.

Ed, Deacon Kull, is the image I've always had in my mind of the gentle, kind, loving, spiritfilled Christian leader of the Catholic Church.
