George Robert Fleming, 86, died September 22, 2021, at his home in Woodland, CA. George was born June 25, 1935, in Grafton, ND, to Alex and Viola Fleming. He grew up in Hamilton, ND, living with his grandmother Emma Fleming and uncle Sidney Fleming during growing seasons. George attended Hamilton High, where he played basketball. He was the valedictorian of the class of 1953.George graduated from Mayville State Teachers College in 1957, earning a B.S. in Business Education and Physical Education. He taught in North Dakota high schools and colleges for seven years.George married Cathy Sack in 1961. During that summer, he earned his Masters in Business Education at Colorado State, Greeley. Along with their two children, George and Cathy moved to California in 1964. George taught at Esparto High for seven years, during which time they had two more children. George began teaching at Davis High in 1971 where he coordinated the Work Experience program. He also coached the girls basketball team for five seasons.George retired from teaching in 1994.Besides teaching, George owned and operated several laundromats, was a financial planner, volunteered at the Heidrick Ag History Center, was an avid supporter of DHS athletics, and a 35-year season ticket holder for the Sacramento Kings.George is survived by wife, Cathy; son, Craig (Darla); daughter, Shari Pike (John); daughter, Joni Lawrence (Felix); son, Jay; grandchildren, Taylor Roth (Eric), Shelby, Lukas and Ella Fleming, Adam Pike (Maggie), Allie Cunningham (Jeff), Bailey and Emma Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Kolbie Roth, Sawyer, Jaxon and Quinn Cunningham; brothers, Gerald (Sue), Larry, Vernon (Joanne); and sister, Diane Hagerott. He is predeceased by his parents; his grandmother and uncle; and his brother, John (Jackie); sister-in-law, Peggy Fleming; and brother-in-law, Alvin Hagerott.A Celebration of Life will be held October 30 at Woodland Hotel from noon to 3 p.m.A scholarship is being set up in George's memory for local students pursuing a degree in education.Memorials may be sent to Cathy and marked "Scholarship."W00159190-image-1.jpg
