Joan Rott Obituary

Joan Kathleen (Brugh) Rott was born and raised in Sacramento, CA to parents Norris and Ninah Brugh. Her childhood was shared with two older brothers, Ron and Mike and a younger sister, Cindy. The values of faith, family and hard work were instilled at a young age and were exemplified in the way Joan lived her life. After graduating from Sacramento State, Joan married Dan Rott in 1978. The couple moved to Dixon, where they raised their three children, Erik, Tara and Ivan. Joan was a dedicated mother and poured much of her love, time and energy into her kids and community. Her creativity was often put on display by helping with countless school projects, vacation bible school and throwing themed birthday parties as well as crafting unique Halloween costumes. With her kids in school, Joan returned to the work force at UC Davis Extension and eventually became a successful Associate Director of Business and Management Programs. Retirement brought Joan and Dan to a home in Woodland with space to garden and host family and friends on special occasions. Joan remained involved in community volunteering and welcomed two daughters-in-law, Katie and Sammy, into the family. Recently, her dream of becoming a grandmother came true with the birth of Hattie in 2016 (Erik and Katie) and Zinnia in 2017 (of Tara). Joan passed away too early from a sudden illness while she was vacationing in Europe on Sept. 16. She will be missed immensely for her endless love, deep friendships, generosity, and a can-do-attitude. Her laugh came easily and cheered up those around her. She was there for those in need and was unselfish with her time. Please join us for a celebration of her life on Oct. 13, at the Woodland Presbyterian Church at 10:30 a.m., with a reception to follow at the Hotel Woodland. Instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Woodland Library Rose Garden Club at 250 1st Street, Woodland, CA 95695.
