Raul Santillan Obituary

Aug. 23 1935 - Jan. 15, 2010

Mr. Raul Camacho Santillan left this world peacefully at his home in Woodland on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with a respiratory illness. He was 74 years old. Raul was born on Aug. 23, 1935 in Pharr, Texas. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1958 to 1960. He was a hard-working person who spent most of his life in the farming industry. He also worked at Jack in the Box in Woodland. He was a happy person to be around and would help you keep a smile on your face when you needed it most.

Raul is survived by his loving partner, Carol Pellant; three sons, John, Raul Jr., and Rudy Santillan; grandson, John Jr.; and three siblings, Roberto Santillan and wife Chica, Cuca Garza and husband Oscar, and Lola Leal; as well as by several nieces and nephews. Raul was preceded in death by his father, Carlos Santillan; mother, Anita Santillan; and brother, Ramiro Santillan.

The family would like to thank his wonderful caregivers, Julie and Tim Tunstall, and Diane Foster, as well as the entire staff of Yolo Hospice for his care.

A vigil and rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25, at McNary's Funeral Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. An interment will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35036 CR-22, Woodland. McNary's Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Tio Raul,
Your family misses you dearly. I'm going to miss seeing you at my father-in-laws house, your brother Robert. From the first day I was introduced to the Santillan Family, you have always been so kind and friendly. The both of us could talk about work for hours. You watched me grow up with your nephew Robert Jr. and never judged us when we constantly made wrong decisions...today I am a Sheriff Dispatcher, still you treated me the same. I will always love you for that. Don't worry Tio - We will take care of your brother and sisters... we will continue to take Robert Sr to "therapy" (casino), and talk about all our memories with you! We all have our date and times, cant wait to see you again.

Tio Raul we will miss you dearly, sorry we didnt spend more time together, but the time we did spend was priceless. My prayers to all of the Santillan family......there are no words that could possibly comfort you during this time of loss, but in time you will find peace in knowing that he is in a much better place, pain free and looking down on all of us. God Bless you!

It was a privilege to know Raul these last 6 months. He always made the effort to be a cheerful and gracious host during my visits, no matter how unwell he might have felt. I loved hearing his stories and greatly admired his kind, optimistic spirit. Deepest condolences to Carol and her family, to Raul's children and grandchildren, and to his many friends who, like me, will miss him dearly.
