Constance P. ‘Connie’ Capozzi NEW PALTZ- Constance ‘Connie’ P. Capozzi passed away on Aug. 22, 2015 at home, surrounded by her family. A lifelong resident of New Paltz, she was born to Laura and Iver Pedersen on May 8, 1925. She was educated in New Paltz at the Lawrence H.Vandenberg Academy, New Paltz High School and took her B.S. Magna Cum Laude with the highest grades in her class from State University of New York at New Paltz (Former N.Y. State Teachers College), her second B.A and M.S in Psychology from Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., continuing post graduate education at Columbia University, New York, N.Y. in her field of Child Psychology. She was a certified New York State School Psychologist, employed at the Kingston Consolidated School System where she was instrumental in establishing the first classes for learning disabled children in Kingston. Previous to her work in Kingston, she taught Child Development and Adolescent Psychology at SUNY New Paltz as well as Elementary School after her graduation from New Paltz. Connie loved flowers and gardening. She was a lifelong member of the New Paltz Garden Club and submitted many prize-winning arrangements to Federated Garden Club shows. She was a member of Clionian Sorority, Kappa Delta Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma, New York State Psychological Association and New York State United Teachers Union, the Dutch Reformed Church of New Paltz and the New Paltz Study Club. Connie’s creative talents were legend and she enjoyed baking, cooking, entertaining, interior design, and bridge. Her devotion to her family was always her first priority, enjoyed many family trips and traveled extensively with her beloved companion Joseph P. Torraca. However, she felt that there was no place like home with her marvelous view of the Shawangunk Mountains and the Wallkill Valley. She frequently remarked that she appreciated having a wonderful life and had great appreciation for all her blessings. Connie is survived by her daughters Marnie Ottesen Delano and Eva Marie Ottesen, her beloved companion Joseph P. Torraca and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Alma Lohrman and Bertha MacIver and brothers, Arnold Pedersen, Edward G. Pedersen and Martin Pedersen, her first husband Milton F. Ottesen and second husband Lawrence Capozzi. Calling hours will take place on Friday, Aug. 28, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz. A memorial service will be held at the Reformed Church of New Paltz, 92 Huguenot St., New Paltz, N.Y. on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 11a.m. Cremation will take place at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
