Helen Reck Obituary

Helen Marie Reck of Connelly, New York died Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Health Alliance Hospital, Broadway Campus. She was born on January 15, 1937, in Kingston, New York. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Connelly) Grunenwald and niece of Louis and Edna Arace. Helen is survived by her husband Johann "John" Reck, daughters Theresa Jorgensen and her husband Jay, Margareta Reck, and Veronica Reck, her grandchildren Elizabeth Mohler, Christopher Jorgensen, and Rebecca Jorgensen; her sister in law, Colleen Grunenwald, and son-in-law Steve Mohler. She was predeceased by her daughter Maria Mohler; her siblings, Charles Grunenwald, Joan Joy and her husband Thomas, Robert Grunenwald and his wife Fran, Catherine Doughtery and her husband Edward. Helen was born and raised in Kingston, New York. She graduated from Kingston High School in 1954 and the Moran Spencerian Business School. Helen worked as an account clerk for various local businesses including Skyline Manufacturing, Ballantine Distributing, Arace Appliances, Miron Lumber, Cars and Concepts, and most recently retired from the Ulster County Purchasing Department in 1998. She spent her retirement years traveling and volunteering at The ARC Mid-Hudson, with UlsterCorps, and at the Meagher Elementary School in the Reading Tutorial Program. Helen loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Avenue, Kingston, New York www.jvleahyfh.com Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 29th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 30th at 10:00 AM at Saint Mary Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church, Kingston, NY.
