John Baltz Obituary

SHANDAKEN- John Gerald "Jerry" Baltz, 77, of Shandaken died peacefully at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. He was born Jan. 4, 1944 in Philadelphia; son of the late John and Ruth Wilson Baltz. He was a graduate of Red Hook High School. Jerry was a 20 year veteran of the United States Navy, who then went on as a quality assurance engineer in avionics for ITT in New Jersey. He had summered for many years in the Catskills, and has been full time for over 20 years. He took great pride in landscaping his property and puttering in the garage. He was a member of the Catskill Forrest Association, and the American Tree farm System. He was a member of the Phoenicia Rotary Club, having served as a past president. He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Church, served as a long time usher, and had volunteered several years on the Parish Council as Buildings & Grounds Superintendent. Jerry was known for his strong personality, endless supply of jokes, and his direct approach to solutions. He enjoyed many wonderful travels both US and abroad with family and friends. Surviving are his wife Christine Stein Baltz, daughter Jennifer (John) Evans , grandchildren: Natalie and Melissa, and sister: Marie Stutman. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday June 18, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the St. Francis de Sales Church Main St. Phoenicia with Fr. Ed Stewart as celebrant.. Arrangements are under the direction of the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main St., Phoenicia. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Phoenicia Food Pantry. Hard to believe that three years have passed. Think of the Baltz family often and I can still hear Jerry's laughter.
