John A. Smith KINGSTON - John A. Smith of Lafayette Avenue Kingston, died Friday July 11, 2014. Born in East Orange N.J. Sept. 26 1931. He is a son of the late D. Harry and Florence Hoare Smith. John was a veteran of The United States Air Force serving during The Korean War. Employed by IBM as a systems analyst until his retirement. He was then employed part time at Lab Corp and The A. Carr and Son Funeral Home for a number of years. A devout person of faith , John was a long time member of The Parish of Saint Joseph’s Church serving on the Parish Council, Holy Name Society, and as a Eucharistic Minister and usher. A member of The Catholic War Veterans, Division One Ancient Order of Hibernians, IBM Quarter Century Club and long time committee member of the KHS class of 1949 reunion. His wife Mary Ellen (Donnelly) Smith died Sept. 13, 2004. Two brothers, Dudley and Brian Smith predeceased him. John and Mary Ellen were dear friends and caregivers of the late Monsignor James V. Keating. Surviving are his daughter, Mary Frances Smith of North Providence R.I. Sisters-in-law, Marlene Smith of Frankfort , Ill., Marion Smith of Kingston. Several nephews, cousins, and his longtime devoted friends and neighbors also survive. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of Joseph V. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. The funeral procession will form Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Joseph’s Church at 11:30 a.m. Burial, Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
