Joyce Stauble Obituary

COBLESKILL-Joyce “Joy” Stauble, 91, formerly of Cobleskill, passed peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Born March 14, 1930, in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of Howard and Helma (Langenauer) Pangburn. Joy attended Kingston High School during WWII and graduated in 1947. On August 8, 1948, she married Howard J. Stauble, the love of her life, and enjoyed 64 wonderful years of marriage. In 1969 Joyce and Howard moved from the Kingston area to Cobleskill. In her early years Joy was employed part-time at Olive Co-op Insurance Company and continued as a full-time employee following graduation. Joyce continued work until 1950, when their first child was born. She was active in Child Study Groups and volunteer work at Kingston Hospital. Her first day at the hospital was the day Pres. Kennedy was assassinated. She became involved working with the blind through her husband’s membership in the Kingston Lion’s Club. Joy served as Correspondence Secretary for SEEC, a club for the blind and visually handicapped, before moving to Cobleskill. Joy continued to volunteer when she moved to Cobleskill. She was a member of the Tanzanite Unit of the Cobleskill Hospital Auxiliary, chairwoman for many years and correspondence secretary for several years. Joyce then became a lifelong member of the hospital auxiliary. Having a strong sense of community, Joyce volunteered for the former Schoharie County ARC when it was based in the Zion Lutheran Church in Cobleskill. She received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for financial support of the Rotary Foundation. Joy’s greatest happiness and commitment, however, was to her family and friends. She was well known for her compassion and generosity of spirit. Expressions of love were demonstrated through visits, cards, baked goods, hand-knitted or crocheted items, invitations to a meal, outings, or whatever the moment called for. She was the matriarch of the family, and she left those behind with many wonderful and cherished memories. Her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her life and kept her going through difficult times. Joy was predeceased by her son, Paul, her sister Gay, and her husband Howard. Survivors include her two children: Gail Stauble of Moreau, NY and Mark (Katy) Stauble of Moosepath, AK, her brother, Kenneth Pangburn of Kingston; grandchildren: Amy Akers, Christopher Stauble, Jennifer Delgato, Charles Beehner, Kristin Mihuta, Jacob Stauble and Samuel Stauble; great-grandchildren: Zoe and Peyton Akers, Mackenzie and Nathaniel Stauble, Leanna Goodwin, Eli Mihuta and Justin and Taylor Anderson. Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation that will be held from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Saturday, October 9, 2021 with a time of sharing to begin at 12:15PM at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Committal prayers will be held at 1PM at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Zelker officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held at 137 Dow Street Cobleskill for family and friends after the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Paul Stauble Memorial Foundation, care of Sterling Insurance Co., PO Box 9, Cobleskill, NY 12043 or the International Rotary Foundation at www.rotary.org.
