Kenneth Peterson Obituary

Kenneth R. Peterson WOODSTOCK- Kenneth R. Peterson, 69, of Woodstock, a longtime funeral director and the owner of Lasher Funeral Home in Woodstock, N.Y., died unexpectedly on Monday morning, May 13, 2019. He was born in Kingston, N.Y.; a son of Janet (Maclary) Peterson of Woodstock, and the late Harold R. Peterson. In 7th grade Ken already knew he wanted to be a funeral director. Following his high school classes, he would assist at the Lasher Funeral Home, cutting grass, washing cars, and cleaning the funeral home. Following his graduation from Onteora High School, he attended Ulster County Community College, and then attended the Simmons School of Embalming. Ken earned his NYS license to practice funeral directing in 1975 and continued as a funeral director with the Lasher Funeral Home. Ken purchased the funeral home from previous owner Bob Boyd in 2005. A member of the Sons of Norway, Ken was an avid collector of post cards and would attend post card shows held locally. He enjoyed studying genealogy and held an interest in old cemetery stones. He also loved local town history and was a very active longtime member of the Woodstock Area Meals on Wheels. Ken loved to bake, especially his famous blueberry pies. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Carl A. Peterson, and his companion Teresa Grant, of Shandaken; one sister, Cynthia L. Peterson; his dear loving companion, Annette Mason Kissin; two uncles, Cornelius (Connie) Maclary and his Roseann, of Woodstock, and Kenneth W. Peterson, and his wife Shirley, of Alabama; one aunt, Margaret Aikins of Wisconsin; close cousins, Debbie Brooks, and her husband Bob, of Saugerties, and Michael Reynolds, and his wife Suzanne, of Willow. Many other cousins, both local and in Wisconsin, also survive. Ken’s family will receive friends at the Lasher Funeral Home, 100 Tinker Street, Woodstock, N.Y., on Friday, May 17, 2019 from 3 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Lasher Funeral Home, The Rev. Charles E. Stickley will officiate. Burial will follow at Blue Mountain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Ken’s memory to a charity of choice. This comes as a G-R-E-A-T shock. "Greater for Ken than I i'm sure!" This is the kind of M.A.S.H./Gahan Wilson humor we shared with L♥ve & Respect for G-d & The Deceased. Ken and I officiated over many Funeral/Memorial services together. I figured to beat him in the ground first. I had planned a wonderful gag that would have made him roar. I don't read the local news so I am just catching up now. So sorry I was not in attendance. My condolences to all concerned. B-Blest ~ Scottie♠ "I can Beam Yah Up Now Captain"

Heartfelt condolences to Ken's family. He was a mainstay of the Woodstock community...will be sorely missed. At the most difficult times in one's life he was caring, compassionate, professional and always genuine. He was also charming and fun to run into in the Village and chat with. How lucky Woodstock was to have him.

You lived so far away I didn't have the chance of knowing you like others. I admired your love of our Norwegian heritage and your ability to speak the language. Your life was cut short way to soon. You will be sorely missed by all your family here in Wisconsin. Penny Peterson-Kiefer.

My heart and condolences to the family of Kenneth Peterson, I am totally shocked to hear that's sad news. Kenneth was a remarkable kind man that you ever wanted to meet Kenneth was there for everybody in the town of Woodstock, those who do not know me I met Kenneth in my younger years when I used to visit my grandparents Marguerite and Freilan VanDeBOGART that live in Bearsville occasionally we would have to go to the funeral home at " Victor Lasher " I am related to the Lasher's and shultis, and at that time Kennett was working at the door and we will be talking the old days and who was related to who. We would go to the cemetery and visit and Kenneth would be there showing us around the cemetery and stones Kenneth would know exactly where it is , Like I said Keneth was a remarkable man that you ever want meet. I am the son of Gordon and Mary VanDeBOGART are now deceased.
Rest in peace Kenneth you will be missed and forever forgotten.

So sad to learn Ken is gone; he was a calming presence during the most difficult times, in our town of colorful personalities. I will always remember his help in July 2018 with a close friend's funeral. And I'm grateful we enjoyed coffee together last Saturday morning, May 11th, before we both went to work. Condolences to his mother and lovely girlfriend.

Such a shocking loss for everyone who knew Ken. He was such a comfort to me when I lost my mother in 2014 and with one phone call from me in Florida, he handled everything I needed in his quiet professional way. Whenever I am home in the area I would stop in and we would have the best chats. My deepest condolences to his mother and his entire family. RIP Ken. You will be sorely missed.
