Mark Feldman Obituary

Mark R. Feldman, M.D., 82, of Kingston, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston, NY after a short illness. He was born on October 9, 1940 in Kingston, NY, son of the late Samuel and Lillian Kaplan Feldman. Mark married Kayla Abelove in 1964. They had two daughters, Samantha (Feldman) Lagocki of San Mateo, CA and Abigail Feldman of Woodbury, VT. He was a graduate of Kingston High School (1958); University of Buffalo (B.S., 1962) and Faculte de Medecine, University of Lausanne, Switzerland (1970). He completed his internship and residency at St. Vincent Hospital and City Hospital in Worcester, MA, and was a teaching fellow, in gastroenterology, at Brown University, Providence RI. Mark opened the first endoscopy suites at Kingston and Benedictine Hospitals in 1976, and practiced gastroenterology full time until his retirement in 2014. He truly loved all of his patients and the feeling was often mutual. Mark was a true connoisseur of jazz. His love of the genre began when he was a teenager and his knowledge became almost encyclopedic. He began producing records in the early 1980's and garnered 3 Grammy nominations under the Uptown Records label. He founded Reservoir Music in 1987 and recorded 97 titles which have been listened to and admired globally. He truly loved the music and respected the talent of the musicians. He is survived by his wife, Kayla Abelove Feldman of Kingston, his daughters, Samantha Lagocki and Abigail Feldman, his grandchildren, Jacob Lagocki and Sasha Lagocki, his brother, Robert A. Feldman, sister-in-law Janet Feldman and sons-in-law, Ulysses S. Grant and Andrew Costagliola. Mark is preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Lillian Kaplan Feldman, his in-laws, Robert and Anne Abelove, his sister-in-law Marsha Abelove Lee and his son-in-law, Daniel J. Lagocki. Arrangements are entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 11-1pm. The funeral service will take place at 1pm with burial following in Montrepose Cemetery. A tribute for Mark can be found at the link below, where you may leave memories and expressions of sympathy for his family. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests that donations be made to Hudson Valley Hospice or The Boys and Girls Club of Ulster County. To quote Mark directly "Cool Deal Man...."

I am so sorry I won't be able to make it on Sunday... but unfortunately the flu has arrived at my home and I don't want to share it with anyone. When I was a little girl, my mom Rhoda (Mollott Klein) would drive to Kingston, pick up my grandmother Sophia (Kaplan Mollott, and we would go visit Lillian - Marks mom. During these visits, Lillian always brought the conversation to her wonderful sons, Bobbie and Mark and she always had the most glorious smile when she did that . Mark was always Rhoda's favorite cousin, and her adoration continued from the time she baby sat for him to the time she died. They always had a special bond that lasted their lifetimes. May his memory be a blessing and may you smile each and every time you remember him.

Dr. Feldman was such a grand man.

I worked with Dr. Feldman at Kingston Hospital for 20 years and each and every time we´d run into one another, his greetings were sincere, warm and caring.

He was a great surgeon and physician...I can attest to it.

I´m not sure if I´ll be able to make it to the funeral or not due to having the flu for the past few days. Rhoda was my grandmother and while she was still around she always stated that mark was her favorite cousin. At her funeral I got to see Mark aswell and everyone there seemed to visit him at least once. I´m sorry for your loss and I hope you don´t allow this to ruin your holiday and instead incorporate it into your holiday.

Mrs. Feldman and family: Mark was one of a kind as a physician and friend to me, and I will miss him. I worked at KH for 27 years, 1981 until I moved in 2008. Kayla. I am so sorry to hear of Mark´s passing. Rosemary and I have been so privileged to know him as a friend and colleague. I talked with him just a few days ago from his hospital bed. I was always so honored to hear from him and be one of his doctors. Over the years we had so many conversations at home about his amazing talents as a physician, jazz connoisseur, and most importantly as a wonderful, caring and loving person. Our daughter Ali used to work for him and often brought home funny and quirky stories about his meandering through the office. She also really loved him. Our deepest condolences to you and the kids. All the love from our family. Andreas and Rosemary

Dr. Mark, we met when we moved in next door to you and Kayla in 1976. You both welcomed us warmly and over the years we became "family".
All of those Christmas dinners at our house. You always made the salad and presented it beautifully at the table.
We moved away in 2014 but you and Kayla made the journey to the OBX for our daughters weddings and came to visit.
Rest in Peace friend. You will be missed by all who knew you. Kind and caring.
God Bless...

Mark was my first and closest boyhood friend. We met when he was nine years old.

We did everything together, particularly sports. We both loved baseball. Mark was fanatic about the Dodgers and I was a fan of their staunch enemy the Dodgers.

For hours we'd argue about who was the best center fielder Willie Mays or Duke Snyder. Of course there was Mickey Mantle, but we never mentioned that.

Judy and I visited with Mark and Kayla this summer, right after their home was damaged by a tornado.

You'll be missed my friend for life.

Eddie Zwick.
