MARYALICE CAHILL Obituary

KINGSTON-Maryalice E. Cahill, 1927 - 2021. Survived by nine of her 10 children, 22 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, two of her four siblings, many cousins, nieces and nephews and hundreds of friends and acquaintances, Maryalice Cahill came to rest on Monday, September 6, 2021. Born over 94 years ago on February 23,1927 to Alice Macdonald Greene and James Greene in the Bronx, Maryalice lived a full and rich life. She was best known locally as a familiar face in Kingston City Hall. After “inheriting” the position of traffic violations clerk from her uncle, J. Austin “Bud” McDonald, she went on to serve as City Clerk and then secretary to several mayors. No matter what title she held in City Hall, Maryalice was a confidant to numerous city leaders, particularly Mayors Frank Koenig, Donald Quick, Peter Mancuso, John Heitzman, Jim Sottile and especially T. R. Gallo, along with Aldermen at Large T. Robert Gallo, Joseph McGrane and James Noble Jr. She helped in the day to day running of the City of Kingston for almost 40 years and authored dozens of “Mayor’s Messages”. Maryalice was also active in the Kingston and Ulster County Democratic Committees. She participated in numerous successful local political campaigns, including those of two of her own children. In addition to being an exceptional writer, Maryalice was a lifelong fan of Frank Sinatra. Along with her sisters, she stayed connected to St. Jerome’s Roman Catholic Church in the Bronx. Though she always considered herself displaced from New York City, she lived in the same home for over 65 years in midtown Kingston. During the last several months of her life, she was in the compassionate care of the Woodland Pond Skilled Nursing Facility and the good people there who attended to all of her needs and gave her a safe place to rest her weary head. She was married to Michael Cahill for over 30 years until his death at the young age of 50. Her Children, James (Karen), Dennis (Cecilia), Donna Castle (James), Kevin, Elisabeth (Donard Timbrouck, Sr.), Brian (Debra), Terence (Tammy), Patrick (Jill) and Michael (Deborah Jennings) and her sisters Janet Van Kleeck (Robert) and Patricia Killian mourn her passing, but celebrate her rich and long life. Maryalice’s children also shared her sadness in the loss of her husband, their Dad, Mike in 1979 and her son, their brother Christopher (Ann) in 2020 and her siblings, Virginia and James Donald. A private ceremony is being held under the direction of Bernie Gray and the Joseph Leahy Funeral Home. Friends and Family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Kingston at 11:30 am on Saturday, September 11, 2021, followed by brief graveside services at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Kingston. In lieu of flowers, the memory of Maryalice Cahill would best be honored by each person who’s heart she touched extending a special kindness to another human being or helping, as she did so many hundreds of times, a stranger in need. https://www.lastingmemories.com/maryalice-e-cahill
