Nancy Lichtenberg

Nancy R. Lichtenberg, 88, of Lake Katrine, NY, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY. She was born on September 8, 1935 in Englewood, NJ, daughter of the late Stanley and Rosalie (Vautrin) Jackson. She graduated from Kingston High School in 1953 where she served as Secretary of her Junior Class and Vice-President of her Senior Class. Nancy was married in 1957 to the late Richard Lichtenberg who passed away in 2001. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. Together, Nancy and Richard raised a family of six children where they provided love, security, encouragement, and lots of laughs. As the years went on Nancy spent many years caring for and enjoying her numerous grandchildren. In later years visiting with her great grandchildren brought smiles to her face and theirs. Nancy had many interests and was a person who cared about her community and people everywhere. She demonstrated this caring and enjoyed her personal interests as a very active, involved and generous person throughout her life. She was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner of St. Catherines for over sixty years where she attended daily mass and served as a lector and an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. She volunteered for many years at the Hurley Mission, Catholic Charities and Ten Broeck Commons. Nancy had a lifelong love of music that she passed on to her children and grandchildren, with a gift for singing that got her chosen as a soloist in Leonard Stein's Choir and accepted into the voice program at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music without an audition. She shared that gift not only with her family, but with her entire community, singing with the windows open on Roosevelt Avenue, at talent night at Loughran Park and as a member of the KHS Choir in her earlier years and the KHS Alumni Choir in her later years. She also combined her love of singing with her religion and served as a song church leader, sang at funerals, in a musical production of The Sound of Music, and in multiple local choirs including the Mount St. Alphonsus Choir and the St. Joseph's Choir for 45 years. Singing in the Papal Choir at Yankee Stadium in 2008 was one of the great joys of Nancy's life. For over fifty years, Nancy enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, playing piano, had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, was an avid NY Yankees fan, and was an active member of the Class of 1953 Reunion Planning Committee. She loved the many cats she had throughout her lifetime, donated generously to many charities, and was always there to lend a helping hand. Nancy enjoyed the many friendships she formed over the years through her many activities and in her neighborhood. The family wishes to thank these friends for their help and support over the years and especially in the last several months. Nancy is survived by her children, Sue Lichtenberg-Greffrath (Rich), Lynne Lyons (James), Michael Lichtenberg (Beverly), Julie Lichtenberg, and Joanne Lichtenberg-Brian (Alan). She is also survived by many grandchildren, Sequoia Nacmanie, David Nacmanie (Jenn), Kevin Lyons (Dana), Keith Lyons (Emily), Kelly Lyons, Tom Roberts (Lauren), Brian Roberts, Christopher Greffrath (Carley), Bobby Greffrath (Rachel), Marc Greffrath, Steven Lichtenberg, Stephanie Lichtenberg, John Lichtenberg, Jimmy Lichtenberg, Vanessa Hernandez, and Dante Hernandez, as well as her great grandchildren, Natalie, George, Maddy, Warren, Leo, Lydia, Malcolm, Joshua, and Xander. Nancy was also a devoted and loving aunt to her nieces Anne Marie Sanglyn, and Cathy Sanglyn-Hanson (Eric) and their children Collin and Caroline. In addition to her husband and parents, Nancy is predeceased by her son, James Lichtenberg and her son-in-law, Anthony Roberts, her sister Norma Sanglyn, and her brother-in-law John (Jack) Sanglyn. Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm. A Mass of Chirstian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's RC Church, 242 Wall St., Kingston, NY 12401 on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 10am. Burial will follow in Hurley Cemetery, Hurley, NY.
