Phyllis Silkworth Obituary

Phyllis Babcock Silkworth KINGSTON - Phyllis Babcock Silkworth, 91, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at the Laurel Gardens Nursing Home, Glastonbury, Conn. She was born on Dec. 26, 1918 in Kingston the daughter of Viola Belle and Clarence J. Babcock. Graduating in 1936 from the Academy of St. Ursula, she attended Beaver College, Pa., and Pratt Institute, NYC, majoring in fashion design; something she enjoyed throughout her life. On Aug. 25, 1939, she married George J. Silkworth, also of Kingston, and together they took great joy in raising their family. After three years in Milford, Conn., they returned to Kingston to assume responsibility for the family business, Babcock's Dairy, ultimately settling in Marbletown. Phyllis was involved in various community organizations throughout the years. Her husband predeceased her on Nov. 24, 1984, after which she lived in Kinderhook, and Glastonbury, Conn. She is survived by her four children, Carol Lee (Marshall) Robinson of Glastonbury, Conn.; Jay (Cindy) Silkworth of Schodack Landing; Kerry (Robert) Dyka of Barnstable, Mass.; and Alison (Scott) Meyer of Millbrook; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her sister, Jean Babcock Lefren of Hokessin, Del.; sister-in-law, Shirley (Anthony) Crespino of Kingston; and 11 nieces and nephews. She had a young spirit, playful sense of humor and always a creative outlook on life, and will be deeply missed by us all. A graveside service will be held at the Trinity Church Cemetery in Saugerties, at the convenience of the family.
