Rusty Marks WOODSTOCK- Rusty Marks of Woodstock, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018. She was 80 years old. Born on Feb. 28, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, to David and Ethel Marks, Rusty grew up in the Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights, and graduated from Shaker Heights High School. In 1956 when she was 19, Rusty moved to New York City to attend acting school. An aspiring singer, she began singing professionally and worked at many nightclubs throughout the city. Rusty married in 1965 and had a son, Robert, in 1969. The family moved to South Salem, N.Y., in 1971, where she made friendships that lasted her entire life. Following a divorce from her husband in 1975, Rusty worked for Avon until moving with her son to Woodstock in 1981. There she began a career as a realtor, working in real estate until her retirement in 2015. Rusty loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren, Jack and Olivia, who were the light of her life in her later years. She loved cats, owning several, and was a long time supporter of the ASPCA. She also supported St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Rusty enjoyed eating out, shopping, and vacationing on Cape Cod, her self-described second home. Never losing her love of singing, she would often sing for friends at dinner parties and other events. She was loved by and will be missed by all who knew her. Rusty is predeceased by her parents, David and Ethel Marks, and her sister, Toby Wasserman. She is survived by her son, Robert Weiss; daughter-in-law, Renee Weiss; grandchildren, Jack and Olivia Weiss; brother-in-law, Lloyd Wasserman; and nephews, Perry and Larry Wasserman. A celebration of Rusty’s life will take place on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Lasher Funeral Home, 100 Tinker Street, Woodstock, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that donations be made in Rusty’s name to either the Ulster County ASPCA, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
