Farrell family,
my deepest condolences. you may not know me or anything about the city of winfield alabama but I want to show my gratitude for your family and your son, Shawn. Above all that I have an immense respect for all soldiers, and the sacrifices they make every day. I am very sorry for your loss, but I want to reassure you that his death was not in vein. The air I take in, the ground I walk upon, the expressions I make daily, would not be allowed in a world without people like your son, Shawn, who realized that the United States stands for our freedom, and sacrificed his own ambitious goals to achieve these things. My family and I are free because of these sacrifices and for that I thank you, and your son.

To the family of Shawn Jr.: I first met your family when I had the privilege of being a teacher at RVHS and had Shawn Sr. and other family members in my classes. Fast forward to April 2005 when Shawn Sr. co-ordinated the evacuation of my family from our flooding house. Your family is all about service-to the community and to our country. At the time of the flood, I wrote a thank you letter entitled "Guardian Angels" to the local newspaper, thanking Shawn Sr. and the Accord Fire Department. It is now clear that Shawn Jr. was also a Guardian Angel, but for our country and our freedoms. His service and sacrifice is a legacy that no one can change or diminish. In your pain, know that you have the immense gratitude and respect of the community for raising a patriot. God bless you and keep you strong.
