Farrell family,
my deepest condolences. you may not know me or anything about the city of winfield alabama but I want to show my gratitude for your family and your son, Shawn. Above all that I have an immense respect for all soldiers, and the sacrifices they make every day. I am very sorry for your loss, but I want to reassure you that his death was not in vein. The air I take in, the ground I walk upon, the expressions I make daily, would not be allowed in a world without people like your son, Shawn, who realized that the United States stands for our freedom, and sacrificed his own ambitious goals to achieve these things. My family and I are free because of these sacrifices and for that I thank you, and your son.

My name is Chandler Mordecai. I am a senior at Winfield City High School in Winfield, Alabama. MY government teacher has asked us to write these letters in honor of Veterans Day. I am a varsity cheerleader, an avid reader, and a classic movie fanatic. I would just like to say how thankful I amfor Shawn's sacrifice. I can only imagine the pain of losing a loved one. I hope to demonstrate bravery like he did. His valor, duty, and service will not be forggoten. Thank you for all that you do! If you would like to reply to this, please email my government teacher at [email protected]

Dear Sgt. Farrell,
I had the honor of serving in your escort from Newburgh to your hometown of Accord, and the outpouring of support for you and your family was overwhelming.
Sergeant, you made the ultimate sacrifice for each and every one of us, for the freedoms so many of us take for granted. Our hearts ache for your wife, family and friends, but may they find comfort knowing that you now rest in the embrace of The Man Upstairs.
Sergeant, your mission is now complete.
We are forever grateful.

To the family of Shawn Jr.: I first met your family when I had the privilege of being a teacher at RVHS and had Shawn Sr. and other family members in my classes. Fast forward to April 2005 when Shawn Sr. co-ordinated the evacuation of my family from our flooding house. Your family is all about service-to the community and to our country. At the time of the flood, I wrote a thank you letter entitled "Guardian Angels" to the local newspaper, thanking Shawn Sr. and the Accord Fire Department. It is now clear that Shawn Jr. was also a Guardian Angel, but for our country and our freedoms. His service and sacrifice is a legacy that no one can change or diminish. In your pain, know that you have the immense gratitude and respect of the community for raising a patriot. God bless you and keep you strong.
