Albert Galpin Obituary

Albert "Albie" Thomas Galpin of Gloversville, NY, passed away from advanced Alzheimer's Disease on Friday, December 11, 2020. =Albie Galpin was born in Gloversville's Nathan Littauer Hospital on March 20, 1943 to Elizabeth and Albert Galpin, the first of their four children. Albie grew up in the Galpin family home at 13 Gregory Street and was educated at Kingsboro Elementary, Estee Junior High, and graduated from Gloversville High School in the class of 1961, where he was twice a varsity letterman for the Gloversville Huskies football team and was voted outstanding player in 1960. Albie loved enjoying life, especially anything athletic both as a participant and spectator. Throughout his childhood Albie would spend long days playing baseball and football with his friends at Gloversville's Gregory Field. Post-high school, Albie remained an athlete throughout his life playing several years for the Glove Cites Colonials, the Adirondack Softball league, was an avid bowler, and routinely attended the Gloversville YMCA where he excelled at both basketball and racquet ball for over 50 years. Albie was an avid NY Giants fan, attending one of their Super Bowl appearances in 2001 and having several of his editorials about the Giants published in the NY Post. Albie's career began right after high school when he joined Threher and Jung in Gloversville, NY, as an apprentice then a fully licensed plumber. After 25 years at Threher and Jung, Albie became an entrepreneur purchasing, renovating, and managing multi-unit apartment buildings in both Gloversville and Johnstown, NY. He frequently commented that he was "living his dream life as his own boss". In 1986 Albie and his wife Linda moved to Saratoga, NY, building two beautiful homes, while still commuting to Gloversville and Johnstown to manage their real estate business. After selling each of the properties in their real estate portfolio. Albie and Linda officially retired from their business in 2016. Throughout his career Albie always made time for his family and friends, and for over 30 years he and Linda enjoyed spending several months each winter in Florida. Albie married Jean Durkee in 1964. They had two children, Christopher and Matthew. After the couple divorced, Albie married his second wife Linda Langdon in 1982. Albie is survived by his wife Linda, their dog Daisy, son Chris Galpin and his wife Debbi Galpin, son Matt Galpin and his fiancé Tara Cleland, stepdaughter Susan Armer, four grandchildren Payge, Paris, Hunter and Marnee Galpin, sister Susan Torino and her husband Dave Torino, sister Cynthia Galpin, brother Tim Galpin, nieces Lori Conners and Missy Torino, aunt Marion Costa, and numerous cousins. Albie Galpin was known by his family, friends, and acquaintances as the most fun loving and positive person you could ever spend time with. In his business life Albie was incredibly hardworking and industrious, and in his personal life he was quick-witted, funny and his smile always lit up a room. Albie will be deeply missed by his family and friends alike. There will be no services at this time due to the current Covid-19 Pandemic. A graveside service will take place at a later date at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville where Albie will be laid to rest near his parents. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville. Memorial contributions to the family may be made in lieu of flowers to The Community HOSPICE www.communityhospice.org or the Cure Alzheimer's Fund curealz.org. I didn't know you well but you must have been a wonderful guy because your lovely wife Linda loved you so much.
Albie and I shared the same birthdate of March 20, 1943 and when I would see him I would say "you remember me, we have the same birthdate" and we would laugh about it.
