Allan H. Gillespie

Allan Hugh Gillespie, 94, passed away June 6, 2021 at the Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Francis and Katherine George Gillespie. Al served his country honorably in the United States Navy during WWII. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Hope in 2009, and his brother Donald M. Gillespie. Al was a liquor salesman and representative for Seagram's and Graves & Rodgers for many years before his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family at the campsite he and his wife held at Birch Haven Campground on Sacandaga Lake, where he loved to fish and boat. Al was known for his kind, friendly, grateful manner, and sense of humor. He was liked by all that knew him. Al is survived by his children Don, Gary (Mary Ellen) and Susan Suddard (Kevin), grandchildren Sean, Kimberly, and Erin McCarthy, Patrick (Anna), Bryan, and Cory Gillespie, great grandchildren Tyler McCarthy, Isabella Donadio, Ryan and Evan Gillespie. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with Al's family on Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206. Please only enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance; unvaccinated people must wear a mask and socially distance. A Funeral Service honoring Al's life will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. from the McVeigh Funeral Home. The Rite of Interment will immediately follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland where he will be reunited with his beloved Hope.
