Barbara L. Sala Charlotte, NC - Barbara Lynne Sala, 72, of Amsterdam NY passed away peacefully on Thursday July 25th, 2024, in Charlotte, NC, with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Amsterdam NY, in 1952, the daughter of the late Tess and Abe Hanna. She graduated from Bishop Scully High School, and later graduated from Fulton Montgomery Community College. Shortly after, she married her devoted husband Tony Sala in 1972, and raised three children together, Trish Cayea (Steve), Chrissy Bianchi (Scott), and TJ Sala (Nicole).
She is predeceased by her brother Dick Hanna. Along with her husband, and children, she is survived by her grandchildren Kaitlin Sala, Vinny Sala, Morgan Cayea, Peyton Cayea, Addi Bianchi, Mia Bianchi, Tyler Bianchi, and great grandchild Elliana Esposito. Her sister-in-law Pat Hanna. Her cousins Shirley, Sharon and Sandy, who were like sisters to her.
She worked at Amsterdam Printing & Litho Co. and City Hall of Amsterdam for many years, as well as various part time jobs throughout her life.
She was a hard worker. Even with multiple jobs, she found time to be our childhood Brownie troop leader, drive us to sports, dance, horseback lessons, hand sew our Halloween costumes, and take us camping at Moffitt's beach. She had a love for ceramics. She had a studio in the basement where she gave lessons, and the ceramics she made, she gave to friends and family.
Barb was a social butterfly. She was witty, funny, kind, had a great sense of humor, and people were drawn to her. She valued her relationship with others and was loved by many. She befriended anyone she came in contact with. Her closest friend in Charlotte, and longtime dialysis buddy, Ms. Stanton, along with all her friends and family, will greatly miss her.
One of her favorite holidays was Christmas, and everything that came along with it, from decorating, gifting, and time with her grandkids. She especially loved teaching her grandchildren how to make different crafts, knit, bake and sew. She enjoyed reading, antique shopping, watching Hallmark movies, camping in the Adirondack's, and looking at photos. Barb also loved hiking with her husband and going to NASCAR races with him. She enjoyed concerts and traveling. She had a love for animals, especially dogs. She also had a strong Catholic faith and found good in everyone. She taught us to have compassion for others, accept others for who they are, and to forgive.
We would like to thank Davita South Charlotte, her Home Instead caregivers, Ladder 39 Charlotte Fire Department, and Atrium Pineville for all the years of saving our mother's life and helping her live comfortably. We would also like to thank Dr. Brancato for the excellent care she received from him. He continues to be amazed by her, telling us, Barb has defied all medical laws. This is due to her unbelievable will to live. Most importantly we would like to thank her main caregiver, best friend, and dedicated husband, Tony.
