Dean S. Fisher, 46 years old, of Main Street, died Saturday at Ellis Hospital after a heroic, lengthy battle with lung cancer. Dean was born December 10, 1965 in Amsterdam and was a lifelong area resident. He served his country with the US Army Reserves for seven years. Dean was a hard worker until ill health forced his retirement. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Rotterdam. Dean enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved the time spent with family, especially their trips to Maine. Dean is survived by his parents, Frank and Roseann Czwakiel of Pattersonville; his wife, Nancy D. Fisher whom he married June 16, 1990; his son, Matthew Dean Fisher; his daughter, Danielle Rose Fisher; two brothers, Monte Fisher of Mayfield and Dean's twin Duane (Mandy) Fisher of Amsterdam; his sister, Shannon Fisher of Pattersonville; two stepbrothers, Joseph (Carrie) and Jim Czwakiel of Scotia; his stepsister, Michelle Czwakiel of Scotia; his brothers-in-law, Roy (Marcia) and Gary (Kathy) Hazzard, both of Amsterdam; and he was especially close to his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Karen and Thomas Donahue of Amsterdam; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Walter and Elizabeth Hroncich; and his paternal grandparents, Edward and Mary Kupciunas. Dean's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Ellis Neurological and the staff on C6 Neurological ICU. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 10:15 a.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday morning beginning at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.
