Edward Hines Obituary

Edward J. Hines, 68, passed away surrounded by his family, in the arms of his loving wife on Sunday, August 23, 2015. Born in Schenectady on August 15, 1947, he was the son of Edward J. Hines Sr. and Kathryn Boyle Hines. He was a lifelong resident of the Schenectady area and a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. Ed worked as a salesman for several companies until he retired due to illness. He was proud of his "Salesman of the Year" award at Heluva Good Cheese Company. He made his mark as the "Bud Man" in and around the Schenectady area while selling and promoting Budweiser for Northern Distributors. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He shared stories about his travels abroad on the USS Telfair. Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a man that "Dealt with the facts" and wasn't afraid to tell you what those facts were. He could tell you the cold, hard truth and have you laughing moments later. His sense of humor was infectious but never predictable; he enjoyed sarcasm, pranks (usually in the form of fake spiders), sharing comics, subtle jokes, borderline inappropriate, light and dark humor. He made everyone laugh. Ed enjoyed the outdoors, he loved camping, swimming, the night's sky, and tending to his lawn, plants and flowers. In his younger years he enjoyed dancing and having fun with his friends. After his illness he enjoyed scenic car rides, lunches at the diner and sitting outdoors. He loved visits from all of his children and grandchildren and he especially loved to draw and color with his granddaughters. During his illness, one of his greatest joys was spending time watching shows, talking and laughing with his love, Karen. Ed loved sports. He was also a lover of all things football, watching many local area college games as well as a loyal fan of the NY Giants. He also loved baseball and the NY Yankees. He loved to hear stories and view photos of his favorite athletes, Lance and Bella. He enjoyed discussing sports with his grandson and other family members. He also liked puzzles; he looked forward to coffee and The Daily Gazette Jumble each morning. Ed fought his illness fiercely in an attempt to have more time with his family. He was brave, tough, and caring. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Karen A. Hines, whom he married on July 25, 1998. His children, Edward and Kevin Hines and Danielle DeLauro, formerly residents of Scotia, NY, Mary (Nick) Kollar, Laurie Elwell, Rowland (Heather) Elwell; grandchildren, Lance, Bella, & Angelina (Mary), Mia & Edward (Laurie), Calla, Andie, & Zoe (Rowland); great-Grandchildren, Damion & Jamie (Mia). Also, his brother, William O'Connor & children; along with his mother-in-law, Raffaella Pasquariello; his brothers-in-law, Stephen (Sandra) Pasquariello and Ralph (Susan) Pasquariello; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law, Stephen Pasquariello; sister-in-law, Helga O'Connor and his nephew, William O'Connor. Special thanks to the wonderful and caring Doctors and clinical staff of the Ellis Hospital ICU. They took great care of Ed and his family during his stay. We will always remember your kind hearts. We would also like to thank the team at Baptist Health where Ed spent time in rehabilitation. Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Madeleine-Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Rd., Guilderland. Burial, with military honors, will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the charitable organization of your choice. To my dearest cousin Karen,
I am so humbled to know that such an amazing man had been part of your life. The love you both share is what living was all about. The memories you madw, the places you traveled and the lives that you both touched, will never be left unnoticed. A road may have separated you, but another journey will bring you both together once again in time. So live life to it's fullest, laugh as much as you can, keep dreaming of kissing Ed and one day you'll be again holding his hand.
God Bless You Both!
