Frances Valensi Obituary

Frances (Fran) Susan Valensi GuildrelandFrances (Fran) Susan Valensi, 48, passed away on August 8th at St. Peters Hospital after fighting a rare cancer for several months. Fran was born on May 6, 1964 in Flushing, NY. She was the daughter of Sherry and the late Milton Mendik. Fran is survived by her husband, Dan, and their four children, Leah, Jessica, Jacob and Hannah; and her two sisters, Faith Mendik and Patti Mendik Chien, as well as other family and friends too numerous to mention. Fran accomplished much during her life. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she established the patient registration department, the financial counseling department, point of service collection and other services at St. Peters Hospital. She has always been a doer and had a get it done attitude, which helps to explain her successes. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Avenue, Schenectady. Interment at Congregation Gates of Heaven Cemetery will take place immediately following the services. Shiva will be held at the family home on Sunday, following the funeral and Monday 7 to 9 p.m. Fran would have wanted a short yet efficient obituary, so this is in keeping with her style. Two cups of coffee in hand, and a Princess Bride quote on the way out the door Fran was prepared to take on the world. “Have fun storming the castle. Think it'll work? It would take a miracle.” Miracles were common on my days spent in the Valensi house with Fran leading everyone with her energy, humor, and patience. She was an amazing mother and any one who spent time with Fran surely knew the newest accomplishments of her four children. She was their number one cheerleader and supporter through sports tryouts, music lessons, play auditions, dance recitals, Hebrew school… the list goes on and on. I fondly remember my first experiences of Jewish holidays, lazy movie days and hours of playing Super Nintendo all with Fran cheering us on and welcoming us as family into her home. Dan, Leah, Jessie, Jake, Hannah, Sherry, Patty, and Faith, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I will remember Fran most for her spirit. She took on the world for her family and friends and will continue to shine down on us all.

With love,
Molly Clancy

To Dan, Leah, Jess, Jake, Hannah, Sherry, and Aunt Patti

I have so many memories with Fran, it's hard to pick a favorite. I barely remember the first year you moved here, other than Fran and Sherry towering over my preschool self, asking if I would like to stay and play with Jessie and Jake. I never knew accepting that one play date would turn into a timeline of memories from my childhood with the people I now call my second family. As a fifth grader, I spent my early mornings before school with Fran, and whoever else was up for the challenge of getting the very young and stubborn Hannah Banana to bush her hair. In middle school I took drives with Fran, Jess, and Hannah to numerous dance recitals. In-between the few numbers that Fran wasn't helping the girls with makeup and costumes, I got to sit in the audience with her and talk. My favorite part of getting to sit with her was watching her face light up as she saw Jessie or Hannah walk on stage. She was so proud of you guys, and the love she had seeing you both up there was unimaginably infectious. My last memory of my time with Fran was a little over two months ago, one of the few times I ran through the door looking for someone other than the kids. Now in my last year of high school as I start to plan for my future, and a job in the hospital world, I went to Fran. It was there on her bed, she told me, I just had to push through and not worry about the small things, with time, energy and confidence I would get there. Family dinners at your house also hold some of my favorite memories. No matter what time of the day I ran through your door, dinner was the one time I could count on seeing all of you together. Somehow just like the recitals I had the luck of sitting right near Fran. Again, as you guys talked, and Dan and Leah told funny jokes, I saw the unimaginable infectious love she had for all of you. I cannot even begin to express how sorry I am for your loss.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
With all my love,
Caitlin Clancy

To the Valensi family and to Sherri,

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. I am shocked and saddened to learn of Fran's passing. So young, so full of life, so full of vigor and zest. Whether it be tackling the most difficult of work issues, or keeping up with the children and their activities, Fran portrayed a dedication not matched by many.

I remember first meeting Fran. We formed our bond upon learning that she was a Long Island girl and I was a Brooklyn girl, both transplanted to the Capital Region. Fran and I worked on so many projects together and I always knew I could count on her for her knowledge, her expertise, her dedication and insight, her willingness to share, and her ability to see the whole picture. Always with a smile, always with a laugh and chuckle.

Rest peacefully dear friend and know that you were loved and cherished by so many in your time at St. Peter's. Your loss will be felt for many years to come. I carry with me the memories of our many times working together and especially those regarding Mede.

To Sherri and Danny and Fran's children and family...if there is anything I can do, don't hesitate to call upon me.

To the Valensi Family I was sadden to hear of the loss of your wife and mother. Your mother really cherished her children and I loved how she cheered you on in all that you accomplished. I remember sharing moments when we were at the High School when our children were in the play Hairspray. We were so proud of how you grew to be talented young women and was looking forward to the future. I was heart broken and will miss your mom smile. I hope and pray that the Lord will comfort your hearts and wrap you with His love and strength. I also, hope that her memory will comfort you and bring a smile when you look back in rememberance. Our Family will keep your family in prayer.
With all our Love,

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
